I am really trying hard to understand how they may not be better when an un-drafted rookie comes off the bench for the Bears and basically out-plays Cousins in the 4th quarter.

Has nothing to do with the QB and everything to do with the rest of the way the roster has been built. All you have to look at the last 3 drafts , and how the Lions have drafted vs. the Vikings. Goff is paid roughly the same as Cousins. Goff is less mobile than Cousins. Goff came within a whisker of winning a super bowl with the Rams. The mobility issue is tired and patently false. Our defense as a whole, run game and O-line, scares nobody. Our GM and HC seem to be in over their heads. That's the real reason this team is on ice, going nowhere. Until we get real scouts out there, and a GM who knows how to build a team with an identity, and a HC who will do more than be a Sean McVay puppet, we're on skates.

And once again it's everything but KC. This team had a decent roster, and was in pretty good cap health until they made KC the highest paid QB. Once they went down that road they have had to shed players every year and their free agents have been middle shelf at best, drafting has been a win now shit show because of notion that we were all in with Cousins, but since the day he got here, it's always been something else keeping the team from achieving its potential. Cousins is a good/great passer, he understands what defenses are trying to do most times, he is ahead of any rookie coming out when it comes to knowing how to play the position, and being able to put the ball where it needs to be when he is comfortable. With all that said, this franchise is not ( IMO ) going to get good enough around KC to become a legit contender, so as long as ( again IMO ) its going to take a couple years to get there ( and KC will continue to decline in mobility and skill ) then its past time to get a legit rookie on the roster and start building for the future. It was fucking sad yesterday when they showed the bears O with the rookie and our last 3 drives with a total of 15 yards. some will blame the drops, but on several of those drops it was way short of what was needed and the play was going to go no where even if they had caught the ball. any rookie coming in will have some total stinker games as he learns the position, likely take until year 3 ( regardless of if they play year 1 or not ) to get to where we should be expecting success.

I think no matter what we do with Cousins, we need to take a
swing at a young guy sooner than later.
I think if we wait until year 3 or 4 of the KAM/KOC regime, they could
really be on their way out before they “Get their guy”. I don’t hate hate bringing Cousins back on
one year contracts to let your rookie have a year to acclimate, but I don’t
think bringing in a Mayfield or a Minshew is really sacrificing too many wins compared
to keeping Cousins.

I think move off KC as soon as you can, there is no point in him signing a 1 year deal at this point in his career and it would be cost prohibitive to do so, take that money and use it in FA to bolster another part of your team ( *cough* IOL IDL *cough*) and get by with a journeyman for 1 year. ( NOT MANNION ) I like the notion of Mayfield, but I suspect he will be looking for a multi year deal still instead of being ready to accept that journeyman mentor type of role/situation. as far as sacrificing wins, in a rebuild that doesnt really bother me, losses when the team is looking like they are going all in... that pisses me off.
