I have always had a pretty decent home gym, just got this treadmill earlier this year and love it, totally gym quality, checked out the Nordictrack as well and it is not in the same league as this one -

I also have one of these which I think is the best value cardio machine you can buy, you see them on NFL sidelines all the time -

Got my treadmill here, can give you a good guy to contact who I know there -

I like the bike and elliptical. Consumer reports could be a good way to get some input on treadmills, maybe it would help narrow down what exactly would work for you
Yup, that it VG....Mahalo.
I usually post from an ipad, so to search, copy and paste is a PITA
Personally, I do a lot of lifting.
I do three sets of potato chips at fifteen to twenty,
then I add dip to increase the weight, until fail.
intermittent curls with sweet tea
Im all muscle.
If you have a local gym that is convenient, I recommend that. Its motivating to get out of the house. I have a gym 5 minutes away and I got 6 out of 7 days a week (have to rest those joints as a 57 year old one day a week). Not sure that's an option for you.

There is one in town, but in the winter it's kind of a pain, and winter is about 6 months of the year here.

I do an eliptical which is kinder on my joints.
My wife does a Nordictrack 1750. You dont have to buy the subscription for it to be perfectly useful.
Pretty much all treadmills get mixed reviews. There will be people that had parts break all the way from models that go from $500-$10k.
Good luck!!
Thats my biggest thing is the negative reviews for crap breaking and it doesn't seem like any of the companies have very good support. I kind of ran into that trying to do some repairs in the machines at our fitness center, 20 phone calls and still couldn't get anywhere. Had one company said they wouldn't help me unless I sent them a copy of proof of purchase, how dumb is that?
Are there any brands to watch out for?
So you’re venturing into my wife’s geek zone.
She asks:
What are your plans with this treadmill: Walking, weight loss, training for a race?
And do you have a rough estimate on price that you’re comfortable with?

I hate the gym. Put me at home where I can run in boxers with the TV as loud as I want.
I can say, coaching the cross country team helped. We challenged our kids to run 250 miles during the season. If our (personal) kids reached the goal then they get $250. Wife and I joined in. So I have a monetary goal at the end.

Race.... oh shit thats a good one. I only run when Im gonna get tackled or arrested.
this is for exercise and to try and drop a few pounds, primarily get my cardio back ( I have been dealing with some health shit for about 2 months that hasnt allowed my to be very active, although to be honest, I havent been very active for about 2 years ) but I want to try and curb the old many weight loss and get my air back. I was hoping to find something in the $1500 to $2000 range, I have also thought about a rowing machine, I used to use one of those in HS to burn out my workouts. exercise bikes with the upper body work are another thing to consider, but I dont want to really do anything that will add mass.

I have been paying for a family membership at our local small town fitness center, have donated some stuff and a fair amount of time to it, but its not on the way home from work, and by the time I get home I really dont want to head back out to the gym. I will still keep paying my membership since its a good thing for a small community, but I really just want to work out at home. ( damn kid stole my free weight system when he moved out, so that will be something else to buy if I decide to get serious about living forever.)
