He got in with 30 seconds remaining on the deadline. 30 seconds. He very easily could have missed it. The sport is really messy. Scandal-ridden. Shady, quite honestly. This win by such a long shot really gives the sport a huge lift. At least potentially. Its actually a brutal sport for the horses, incredibly hard on them to run like that. Its a sport where you don't want to see behind the curtain. What jockeys have to do to maintain weight is insane. They usually die young.

Wife is HOT about this. The handler (not the jockey) who stops the horses. Gets them to the winner circle and keeps them from hurting the public was fired because he wacked the stallion after it bite the ever loving crap out of him.
Hes well known in the industry for being professional and good at his job.
I guess these horses arent taught much of anything other then forward as fast as you can. Stopping, loading in the chute, having manners etc is all entirely optional on these horses because tgey spend 100% of the training time/energy on fast/forward.
The infamous handler in the video is Greg Blasi, brother to another notorious asshole in the sport, Scott Blasi "Fuck these horses . . these cocksuckers, there's always something wrong with em". "You could not believe how many horses they hurt/kill, before they even get to the race track" 2013 internal investigation.
Disgusting treatment, should tell you all you need to know about the sport. Love them when they win for you, abuse them when they don't. Thousands of horses die on American racetracks every year. These are 2-3 year old horses, bones not truly formed yet (approximately 5-6 years). Chaotic scene, the horse does exactly what you want it do and you beat it in public.
The race, the excuse to get wasted, the clothing, all gross, all a joke. Thee best horses do not get the best treatment, they get abused, injected, beat, superglued, drugged for nothing but profit in a dying sport. 9 horses yesterday were injured or killed JUST YESTERDAY ALONE across tracks in the US. Fucking stupid sport for clowns and degenerates.
www.horseracingwrongs.org
Doesn't sound that unlike any other professional sport. Drugging, doping, cleared for play, concussion ridden, all for fans to get wasted, jacked up and buy their clothing.
Tell me I am wrong.

But animals are supposed to be treated humanely by humans. What we do to ourselves is our fault. What we do to animals is our fault.
I'm not at all well versed on what is the truth about how these horses in the industry are generally treated or not, but it sure wouldn't surprise me if there was wide and systemic abuse.

I agree completely. We are supposed to be humane in our actions to others and to animals. Just struck me as a similar issue that all professional sports face. Money being made by the few while the lest are left broken and discarded.
Just funny what will get someone worked up while others are enjoying an inspiring moment.
I don't bet on horses, haven't been to a race, so I don't support it financially, just like I no longer support the NFL. But I do enjoy watching something like this.

I can agree with some of this but then again the athletes you are discussing choose to play, are compensated to play, and they don't die on the field, daily.
It's tough to support many sporting leagues these days with the hypocrisy, cheap advertising, bullshit, the NFL is a crack dealer, end of story. But sports that involves the enslavement of animals is stupid in 2022.
I used to believe it was only the low brow tracks across America until the exposes started going after KY, Santa Anita, and Saratoga Springs (where I grew up btw). The abuse, the ugliness, its across the sport as a
Animal advocates shut down the circus

Since when? Hunting, fishing, live stock raising… humans have been killing animals for centuries. Most to eat but many for sport too.
I’m not some PETA guy, I love horse racing and had a great time eating chicken wings and watching the races on Saturday, but on the scope of animal atrocities a 2 minute long horse race does not rank all that high on the list for me. How many pheasants got blasted by humans this weekend (or whatever animal it’s open season on currently)? I’d wager it’s more than 9.
I agree the sport has problems and it made me sad and upset a few years back when Santa Anita was having all of those deaths. It’s terrible. But I don’t think singling out the sport is fair. JMO

I appreciate your passion, I do however find it highly unlikely that you see the same results in horse racing as you have with the previous 2 you mentioned. the circus was for little kids, the dogs were a super cheap watered down version of live betting, but the money behind the ponies will make a much tougher opponent than they have previously faced. there will be little victories, but I dont think we will see the end of horse racing anytime soon. actually I think horse racing has made improvements in the last decade so it is already trying to make itself less of a target which will make it harder to the activists to gather the attention and support that they would have had previously.

I'm far from PETA too...
And like I said, I dont know how far/wide systemic abuse is in horse-racing or not? Dog racing too for that matter.
And what does constitute abuse?
A two minute race in a vacuum seems harmless...But is it really? With a horse who's bones aren't mature enough to take it yet? The training techniques? Other?
Dont know...

you could be talking about a lot of sports there if you look at how little humans are groomed into professional athletes when they are to young to be making an informed decision on the affects those trainings will have on their bodies.
I agree though, you cant look at a 2 minute race and use that as a measure of the humane aspects of a sport or leisure activity.... hell the race part is probable the happiest that horse will be until he is put out to pasture. you cant make a race horse out of a horse that doesnt want to run, the desire to run and be ahead of other horses is in the animal from birth, you can make them train when they dont want to, you can do a lot of sketchy shit to make that horse a better race horse, but that will to run and lead a pack/herd is born in those horses and its likely the only part of the game they love.
Just for the record, animal advocates, people who want to shut down horse racing doesn't always mean PETA. These can be people like myself who love horses. Love them and are not blinded by an ugly sport that kills thousands per year across the US unnecessarily.
Throw in the politics, "jobs", "taxes", its a big ugly mess that promotes this sport that is made off the backs of these animals that did not ask to be born into the system, that are locked in stall for 20 plus hours a day, and purely seen as a commodity (economics, performance, salvage value).
PETA does good work but they are also not the best for creating communication and raising awareness to the issue. Our org, horseracing wrongs has been raising awareness to the deaths on tracks, in stalls, in training (very hard information to access).
Yesterday as an example, just another race, another horse, another death . . . and for what? Gambling receipts? Tradition?
