Not getting extra picks for next year AND dipping into next year's draft by trading away a 2023 fourth. I like that KAM seems to have conviction about "his guys" and is more than willing to trade up or down to get them, but falling in love with guys rather than taking what the draft gives you can also be a curse. Definitely a mixed bag for his first go-round since I do like a lot of the guys we wound up with.
If KC plays out of his mind then more power to him and the Vikings but yeah I'm for sure in the camp of wanting to draft a QB in the first at some point. Mac Jones was there last year. Kenny Pickett was there this year. Lamar Jackson a few years back. I don't know how good those guys can or will turn out to be, but at some point that's the type of player we're going to end up with if we're drafting in the teens every year. OR, you build enough capital to move up.
The best think you can say about the 4th round trade this year is that they didn't have to give up a '23 3rd rounder to do it. That is typically the cost. And they got the guy Kwesi was apparently hot after, so good or bad, Evans should be a nice little bellwhether for Kwesi's scouting ability.

I still contend safeties are not high impact positions and if we wanted a safety, why didn't we just take the guy who's been called the best prospect at the position in a decade who inexplicably fell into our laps? I would bet dollars to donuts Williams will be a more impactful player then Cine. In the words of Zim, safety is a position you can go down to any 7-11 and grab a guy in the parking lot to play safety for you. Zim was referencing cover 2 corners but to me the same applies at safety. The league is filled with just average dudes playing the position and it's a hard position to stand out at.
I don't have any expectations. I recognize that we are starting over again and they are dealing with the consequences of the previous regime. They took their shot and are doing it their way. We'll see how it works out. If Cousins doesn't make it this year, then they have to think about moving on because of the contract. I am excited about the new coaches and hoping for the best.

He was just a guy from some parking lot yet he screwed up more than position it seems. Funny that the guy you call the best prospect at the safety position in a decade lasted until the 14th pick.

Pretty odd to say safeties are a dime a dozen but also wonder why the Vikings didn't take Hamilton at 12.
But I agree with you. And I think the Vikings did too. In terms of positional value, it's hard to justify taking a safety in the top half of the 1st round. So trade down, get a couple picks and take one later. I have no problem taking a safety at 32.
And I'll take your dollars and donuts bet if we're talking about 2022. Williams will be lucky if he even sees the field before November. Obviously the "ahead of schedule" stuff is coming from his agent. And that even his most optimistic timeline has him missing training camp. Just hard to see a rookie WR contributing much without a camp to learn the routes. Also, when he is finally healthy, we're still talking about a nearly 6-2 receiver who weighs 179 lbs. I'd be nervous sending those twiggy limbs out there even without surgery.

I'm on record as never being in favor of taking a safety with a first round draft pick, but if that's a position we were locked into addressing...then why not just take Hamilton who was thought to be the best safety prospect in quite some time and inexplicably fell into our laps? Bigger, rangier, can cover, and just seems more in line to today's game instead of the classic Steve Atwater enforcer type.
And my dollars to donuts bet was referencing which would be more impactful by the end of their rookie contracts. Of course Cine will be more impactful this season (hopefully) with Williams recovering from surgery. But if you are still up for taking that bet let me know..
