As a person who has sit in on many interviews for hiring, It is as not cut and dried as the most popular candidate or the best resume gets the job. There are many people who just interview badly period. Especially a first interview can be less than impressive and a second interview gives a better feel for a candidate. Unfortunately some candidates do not get to a second interview because of the first.
In the hiring process you have to narrow it down to a couple good candidates in order to focus in on getting the committee to do a deeper evaluation.
Every year the media has darling candidates that may be based on real feelings and qualifications or just based on a couple writers getting a bug for a guy who happens to be on a successful team.
Honestly Zimmer was a guy overlooked and passed over for years because from what I have read he interviewed poorly.
BTW momentum for or against a person in a committee is real. One influential person takes a dislike or brings up some sketchy activity and that person is sometimes just done. Or a candidate gets someone pushing for them or focused on that person and a committee will over look flaws.
All this being said, how in the world Dan Campbell ever got a head coaching job is just a horrible breakdown of the hiring system.

At the bold
Or maybe it isnt.
Just to put things in perspective. Everyone said Zim was passed over in many interviews (which is true). He interviewed for six jobs in three years
Quote:Zimmer reportedly went on to interview, over the next three offseasons, with Cleveland, Indianapolis, Miami, Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Tennessee.

Eric B. Has interviewed with 12 teams and still does not have a job. So please this situation is not similar to Zimmer's.
When Zimmer interviewed for a head coaching job he was not at EB's level. Here is what EB has:
- OC of a top 2 offense the past two years - OC of superbowl winning team
- OC of superbowl participating team
- OC of league MVP
Zimmer never had such status so please lets stop the comparison. As a matter of fact EB in one year has the almost the same number of interviews Zimmer has in three years. Let that sink in. Quote:Bieniemy has now interviewed with five of the six teams that have head-coaching vacancies this offseason. The only team that has surprisingly did not request a head-coaching interview with Bieniemy is the Houston Texans. They appeared to be a prime landing spot for Bieniemy, but they seem to have different plans, at least for now.
In total, Bieniemy has now interviewed with 12 NFL teams over the course of the past three head-coaching interview cycles. It’s hard to imagine with five teams showing interest this season that he’d be unable to secure a job.

EB must be such a terrible candidate that he screwed up 12 chances when people are getting jobs with minimal qualifications and experience. At what point do you start questioning the process? What do the following have that is anywhere close to EB's resume?
Staley (Chargers)
Siriani (Eagles)
Campbell (Lions)
Smith (Falcons)
I am sure they had "great interviews".

not disagreeing at all and honestly I think if the Vikings had passed on Zimmer he might never have gotten a HC job. I have no clue how Bienamy interviews or why he hasnt got a head coaching job. Honestly just from a hiring perspective when a person gets passed over so much people on committees begin to wonder why.
sometimes its just bad luck or bad interviewing or a combination of both. I wish Bienamy would come here honestly and bring some of that Chiefs mojo with him. Zimmer is getting to the point where if he doesnt change his coaching style he will get left farther behind.
But seriously The Lions are broken for hiring that bafoon.
Well, we are probably one more bad season away from a new HC. EB would be a natural fit.

At the bold...Absolutely
This hiring has a Les Steckle vibe...wonder if he'll punch himself in the face?
When new Texans coach Culley was WR coach and assistant head coach in Kansas City (2014), the WR unit got zero touchbdowns that year (I dont know how that is even possible). But they liked his ability to connect with players

Hope it works out for them except when they play the Vikes.

I'd have to be assured it's really because of EB and not EB on Andy Reid's sideline (and a Mahomes @ QB). His stock will probably go way up when KC wins a 2nd SB next week.

Every time I have watched the Chiefs I see Andy Reid with the laminated play call sheet. Again, it makes me wonder how much EB is doing as OC. He was RB coach for us with a generational talent of AD and is now OC with Mahomes who looks to be a generational talent and I can't tell if EB is calling plays??
