Houston Texans expected to seek second interviews with Bills' Leslie Frazier, Chiefs' Eric Bieniemy, sources say
The Houston Texans are expected to request second interviews with Buffalo Billsdefensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after Sunday's AFC Championship Game, sources told ESPN.
Both candidates believe they have a legitimate chance to land the Texans' head-coaching job and have begun assembling coaching staffs in the event that they are hired, sources said.
Frazier is said to have had a strong interview with the Texans and has previous head-coaching experience from his time with the Minnesota Vikings. Bieniemy is viewed in many circles as a head coach in waiting, though he has recently been passed over by several teams.
As Houston's head-coaching search ramps up, the winning coordinator from Sunday's game could be the loser in the Texans' search, as they would have to wait to hire him. The Texans could act quicker with the coordinator from the losing team.
This scenario played a key role in the Los Angeles Chargers' hiring of Brandon Staley last weekend over Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Once Staley's Rams were eliminated from the playoffs, the Chargers were unwilling to wait for Daboll and hired Staley.
Other candidates the Texans have interviewed include quarterback Josh McCown, former Lions and Colts coach Jim Caldwell, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and Ravens assistant head coach David Culley.

I read somewhere before all these vacancies that Bieniemy did not interview well with any team in the past. Although, its seems like the media etc think he is no-brainer. I might have also read that he has had a DUI (or something/hope I am not disparaging him).
I am not sold on Bieniemy being an Off guru when I am not sure if he even calls the plays over Reid. With Mahomes and the surrounding talent I think I would be considered for HC jobs. Lastly, I just can't over him sending the FB in at the end of our Saints bountygate game. Sorry, I am holding a grudge. Actually it's not just a grudge on Bieniemy it is against all Viking Gods including Thor.
Frazier really?? Reminds me of milquetoast in the Dungy range. I like both but not as HC's. I am also sick of retreads be bold, not as bold as the Lions, but .....

If you are not sold on him as an offensive guru then that is fair. I am not either. However, the "does not interview well", "does not call plays", DUI and 12 players on the field mishap are just questionable talking points and I must add starting to feel like an excuse. Here are some examples
- Mike Vrabel is a head coach even though he had a DUI in 2011 and was also arrested. That did not stop him. Bieniemy was arrested in 1993 and had a DUI 2001. But yeah, its a big deal in 2021.

- Dan Campbell is the Lions head coach without ever being an OC nor DC. But we don't think Bieniemy is ready even though has been an OC since 2018 and won a SB as one. Campbell was interim coach with a 5-7 record I must add. If Bieniemy had such an introductory conference like Campbell did he would have been fired on the spot.
- When Doug Pederson was hired, it was well known he did not call plays until he mentioned in his introductory press conference that he called second half plays. So he was not the primary play caller in KC either.
- Matt Nagy was not the primary play caller in KC. That did not stop him either
I will end with this quote:

The Chiefs had the No. 1 offense in Bieniemy's first year as offensive coordinator and the No. 5 offense in year two, yet no head coaching jobs were offered to him. Bieniemy's taken the same path as his predecessors, who also weren't the primary play callers in Kansas City when they were learning how to be a head coach under Reid.
"I've always been that way with it (play-calling)," Reid said. "I think it's important that everybody's on the same page and involved with it. So, I don't really care who's calling it or not calling it. I just want to make sure that it gets called and that we've got good plays to call from. That's where I put my energy."

I hope you understand why this is starting to smell fishy. If you think he is not a good candidate for head coach because you are not sold on his football accumen or man management style, that is OK. But that becomes questionable when you hire someone who is proud to say he is not an x and o guy.
I am not against anyone being hired, I am just at the loss with some the lame excuses being offered why they picked A over B.
It's the good old boys network and it fucking stinks. There is so much hypocrisy regarding Bieniemy that it's beyond ridiculous.

Yea I know you are not attacking me at all but I am not sold on Bieniemy at all and I really think I just have that Viking call trauma as I mentioned. Not from the media but from memory. In addition, the Dan Campbell hire has backfired less then a week in and that has to be an all-time record.
I did not do any research it was just a top line thought process and conversation. Bieniemy was RB coach when we had AD/Chester Taylor and now OC with Mahomes and Reid as HC. I am not against him being a HC I just don't buy into the media hype that it would be a crime against humanity either.
Now lets discuss this Dan Campbell character I wouldn't even let my kid play for "The Dude" after that psycho kneecap speech.

You and I are on the same page. I would not be happy if the Vikings hired EB as head coach. My reason is mostly because none of the Reid disciples on offense have been successful.
Here is a list of his OCs that became head coaches off the top of my head: Chilly, Nagy, Pederson, Shurmur.
Now look at non OC coaches: Harbaugh, Ron Riveira, S. MCDermott, Todd Bowles, L. Frazier etc
I feel hiring an OC from Andy Reid to be head coach is like hiring from the Billicheck tree.
Now, compare that to those that coached under Shanahan and McVay. That's just my opinion. I very could be wrong.
The Dan Campbell character is on another level. Who knows he may end up being a good coach but right now, I don't think they are sleeping well with the decision to hire him andbworst if all also give him a 6 year deal.
His comments were not only strange but his behavior on that call was a classic lack of awareness and composure.
They were questionable comments (knee kapping), swearing and talking way too much mostly irrelevant stuff.
When you think of the fact that there was no pressure and it was mostly a friendly environment then you wonder what the conferences will be like when the media starts questioning his decision making or they go on a losing streak (which every team experiences at some point)
Then there is the little issue of Stafford wanting out. They still have to find a qb and if it's a rookie, that comes with growing pains.
We all know first hand what a QB represents to a team.
I guess we just need to get the pop corn ready.
With that said, I wish him the best except against us.
Quite possible we're all going to be having some serious HC discussions next year. Not sure I like the names being bantered about.
If the 21 team craps the bed? That's probably it for Olde Zimmsu.
