The great Danish mask study is concluded
#11
Just went down the rabbit hole and tried to fact check this story, pretty fringe distribution of the same story.  The Blaze, Brietbart, Conservative Angle, RT news....  Not one describing the science, just the story of how there is a conspiracy to hide this information.

Some folk just don't get peer review, just because you write up something, scientific journals are not obliged to print it, it has to be more than entertaining.  It's science, not opinions about things.  The data is analyzed and reviewed, if it holds up under the scrutiny, it will find a place to be published.  Maybe not one of the top journals, there are others that will publish if there is merit to the science, and you put in the effort to submit it, they don't go looking for topical stories.  Yes and experts are the ones to determine merit, not opinion writers.

It appears that is for the mountain climbers on the first peak of Dunning-Krueger spectrum.

Here is a paper about the study, read the comments.  There are no published results, so this a study with no results.

"Dear all, this article in Danish Medical Journal is covering the rationale behind and design of the trial. It does not contain data or results. The results are not published.
Bo Hasseriis, Editor in Chief, Danish Medical Journal, Ugeskrift for Læger"

Results suppressed by Science?  Why?

"Professor: Large Danish mask study rejected by three top journals
The researchers behind a large and unique Danish study on the effect of wearing a mask have great difficulties in getting their research results published. One of the participating professors in the study concedes that the still secret research result could be considered ‘controversial’.
Author: Lars Henrik Aagaard; Published: October 22, 2020
Original articleBerlingske.dk (Danish newspaper)
For weeks, media and researchers all over the world have been awaiting the publication of a large Danish study on the effect – or lack thereof – of walking with facemasks in public spaces during the corona pandemic."
“This is the world’s largest study of its kind and is expected to be an important factor in the basis of regulatory decisions regarding mask use.”
— Henning Bundgaard, Professor and Chief Medical Officer, Rigshospitalet

Aren’t you supposed to be a doctor?

I am mortified for you.

The fact we're even having a discussion on masks at this point is ludicrous and absurd...

I'm sure we'll have a similar discussion when a vaccine is available to wipe out this contagion.
The fact we have a medical professional/doctor pushing this kind of insanity shows just how completely fucking bonkers the right is.

I mean does this guy not wear a mask in surgery or wash his hands, just to prove a point cuz ‘Murica?

Don't be doubting on the Squatch, there is plenty of folk that know the truth.  Probably more than 71,000,000 believers, right here in the US.

True, but this story has legs outside the right wing sites/media.
My link in the OP for example, is one such site.

What the study's authors and others are saying...is you have a long awaited, yuge study by a top-flite team of doctors and scientists assembled for this well-funded study....of yuge world-wide import....and the top journals are not interested?  Of course, The Lancet may be gun shy...still wiping egg off their face on this. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-ne...e-n1225091

Ummm.....BigAl...that is not a "paper"....that is a PROTOCOL journal submission, very common in  ONGOING or proposed large scale studies expecially regarding studies regarding public health.  Pro-tip:  it says "protocol article" at the tippy-top, right below the masthead.  Wink   What the editor-in-chief you quoted is stating, is in response to other commenters wondering where the "results" are.  He's not critiquing the study (no results) he's explaining why they're (results)  not in a PROTOCOL submission.  Protocol submissions are peer reviewed as well.  There is a large part of scientific/medical literature devoted only to protocol, rationale and methodology.
So you saying "this is a study with no results" makes no sense.
The study authors INDEED have "results", and they're "shopping" them/the study to the best journal they can.
Many observers of all ideologies have found it very curious there's (so far) no buyers.

Edit:  Big Al, thanks for at least looking into the subject.

You'll be right at home!
(but not in mine, of course   Wink )

Ah hell, bring over some fried chicken and good bourbon and we'll at least do game-days.

Pretty clear some commenters are engaging in a disinformation campaign.

The site in the OP Transcend Media Service, what's their story.  Kind of looks like someone's website,  no advertising, in their "About Us" section they say they cut and paste articles of interest, no editor in charge.   WTF does exclusive analysis mean.  So it's the same story as all the other places.

Here is this months array of articles of interest, a veritable cherry tree of opinions.

Ummm Savanah where is the paper, and how do you know what the results indicate.  Who are the "others" that are awaiting the "yuge" study results, folks with a conformation bias fetish?

Oh and here is the full context of your bolded quote, the good DR. Bundgaard doesn't want anything published outside of peer reviewed  publications, So what is your point, or are you implying a conspiracy?
"But of course it cannot be ruled out that the three medical journals take the view that the data base in the Danish study is flawed – that, for example, there are too few corona-infected people in the study to be able to draw clear conclusions about the protective effect of masks on infection with the new virus.
In this context, it is worth noting that the study was carried out predominantly in May, when the pressure of infection at home [in Denmark] was greatly decreasing.
Quote:“This is the world’s largest study of its kind and is expected to be an important factor in the basis of regulatory decisions regarding mask use.”
— Henning Bundgaard, Professor and Chief Medical Officer, Rigshospitalet
The study’s spokesman and lead author is Professor of Cardiology and Chief Physician at  Rigshospitalet [i.e. the Copenhagen University Hospital], Henning Bundgaard. He strongly stresses that he wants to be in charge of research ‘of high quality’.
But the professor cannot enter into a discussion about what the study might show or relate to the information Berlingske has received from other study authors.
However, he explains that he is ‘sorry’ that the study has not yet been published in a peer review journal. That is, in a journal where research results are assessed by independent peers in the field.
“This is the world’s largest study of its kind and it is expected to be an important factor in the basis of regulatory decisions regarding mask use – not only in Denmark – but everywhere. That’s why the publication is urgent – and we’re doing what we can on our part,” he says, continuing:
“If I wanted to publish things outside of a journal, I would have done it a long time ago. But there are a whole host of scientific reasons why I don’t. The research I want to do must be of high quality, and this means, among other things, that other researchers must be able to see my data before publication and look through calculations and statistics in order to assess whether they come to the same conclusion as us. This is an essential quality criterion for good research.

Did you read this or just look for supportive things to quote.  The author wants this published in a peer reviewed publication and verified before it is distributed, that's science not rumor spreading.

Someone said your a Doctor, what kind or is that some internet bullshit?

Point of note 5,000,000 Swedish Krona is equal to 578,000 USD not really that big of a study.
