The Mormon Manziel Moving Up Draft Boards
#21
I feel like the Vikings need to take 2 quarterbacks. Take one early and one later. They have not drafted a quarterback early in so long, they need to make the most of the opportunity. But taking another one later would help increase the odds and they need the odds to be in their favor at some point.

Good lord, its so damn hard to project these QB's....

Wilson in the 3rd, Brady in the 6th, Rogers #28 overall and the Vikings passed on him twice that draft.

How many #1's that just bust?

Just get lucky Vikings.
That's exactly it. If you look at draft history, there's ZERO pattern to follow. Brees was a 2nd rounder. Rodgers a late 1st rounder. Russell a 3rd, Dak a 4th. Brady a 6th.

Josh Rosen ahead of Lamar Jackson. Trubisky ahead of Mahomes. Paxton Lynch and Christian Hackenberg and Cody Kessler taken ahead of Dak Prescott. Bortles and Manziel taken ahead of Bridgewater and Carr. Brandon Weeden and Brock Osweiler ahead of Russel Wilson.

And the further you go back, the worse it gets. Gabbert, Locker, Ponder, Tebow, Mark Sanchez, JeMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Byron Leftwich, JP Losman, David Carr, Joey Harrington...on and on and on.....all first rounders, many of whom top 5 picks.

People call Green Bay, Seattle, Dallas and New England smart for their QB picks. Bullshit. They got lucky. Jerry Jones famously moped around for weeks after he was unsuccessful in his attempt to trade up for Paxton Lynch...and had to settle for...Dak Prescott in the 4th.

Just get lucky is right.
Absolutely, dead on balls accurate!

As has been proven time and time again, there is just no measurement for heart and drive.  That is how a Brady becomes the GOAT and top picks fail left and right.  Somewhere deep down inside some of these young men is a burning desire to get better.  Constantly driving themselves while others are on trips to vegas they are in the film room or doing QB camps to hone their craft constantly looking to get better.

I am a huge proponent of Trevor Lawrence, but in reality nobody knows who will be the top QB drafted in the 2021 draft.  Luck had everything that any scout could ask for, but he is out of the NFL in 7 years.  He should just be hitting his prime.

What made Brady great?  constantly being benched at Mich for better prospects?  Drafted 199 overall?  Coach Belichek?  Or was it some strange combination of all these things that combined to lite the fire that has driven him for all these years.

The biggest questions I have on Wilson is his throwing motion and arm strength. He literally drops the ball from his shoulder down to his waist on his wind up. Does he need that motion to get the velocity and torque to make his throws? Is it correctable? That's extra time he won't have in the NFL to get the ball out. At 38 years old, Big Ben still gets the ball out faster than any QB in the NFL and makes it almost impossible to get consistent pressure on him.
