Dak Prescott to Vikings in '21?

Lots of hate for Dak...  I was a big fan of his coming out of college (took him in the 2nd round of the Vikefans Mock Draft) and nothing he has done in the NFL has made me move off him.  He's a good young QB.
I don't hate Dak. He seems like a good dude and I think he can have a good career. I just don't see him coming to the Vikings especially if he gets a bigger deal. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens after Cousins time is up.

Hate? Meh, I don't see that, I see people questioning him the same way people question Kirk Cousins. In big games, what is he doing? Can he carry a team or does he need a nice cast of talent to succeed? I do think he is a good young QB, but what does that mean exactly? It's subjective.

I don't hate him, but the only thing he has on Cousins is youth...and not nearly enough to matter.

He's less accurate, throws more picks, only leads in a couple of tangible categories and barely in each of those...plus, he's reportedly trying to get a contract that'd make Kirk's look positively tiny in comparison.

They better be drafting the next Patrick Mahomes by then.

Shouldnt a QB be able to complete passes?
What if no ones in the stands to see it?

The way Cousins' extension is structured, he has a 2021 cap hit of $31 million... and $41 million dead money if they cut him.  On top of that, his 2022 salary becomes guaranteed on the 3rd day of the 2021 league year.

So it would cost the Vikings more to cut Cousins in '21 than keep him, even before signing Dak.  I suppose the Vikings could conceiveably trade Cousins then sign Dak, but their cap would still be on the hook for $20 million in signing bonus, plus the cost of signing Dak.

There's just no way for this to make any kind of financial sense.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure we can cut Cousins before the 2021 league year begins, and we incur no penalty. It's once the 2021 league year starts that we're locked in to paying him the full amount in both 2021 and 2022.
All that aside, I agree with 2 things in this thread:
Dak is a good QB and good leader.
Dak is not nearly a big enough upgrade over Kirk to pay him the contract he'll want.

Just please Vikings, draft an early-round rookie QB to groom behind Kirk. For once can we please have a backup QB who's not a slug!
