But easier said than done - a lot of cases where the QB can slip out of the grasp of one defender, sometimes more. Remember when the NFL used to call a sack when a QB was in the control of the defender? They completely stopped that (not sure if it was a rule change), so defenders have to bring them down hard. Return to calling that and defenders can ease off. I've heard people say, "soon QBs will just wear flags on their belt". I say, fine, do that! But sacks and tackles behind the LOS would soar, and that's not what the NFL wants.
The NFL has fallen so in love with promoting the image of the heroic QB twisting around in the pocket and escaping from defenders. They want the excitement of the quarterback getting out of danger - but they want the danger to be imaginary. That attitude will turn football into wrestling.

I was joking about that, but you are dead on with your last thought. The brilliant play of Eli shaking off 2 sacks to throw that incredible pass to Tyre. But not allowing the defender to actually fully participate will ruin it, or in worst case, make it worse with QBs holding the ball longer. Just like the over protection of WRs leads to little guys running fearless across the middle. Then when the do actually get hit, it is much worse.

They've done this to themselves. They really had a pretty good solution that defenders could incorporate into the game that protected their heads and knees. Just tackle the guy the way your coaches since pee wee football taught you: wrap up the torso and take him down. That's literally just how football is!
But of course, the NFL had to create yet another problem for themselves. Part of me just wonders if a little bit of their strategy is to keep themselves in the headlines, even if it's for negative stuff like this.
