I think the Allen and Murphy signings were huge overpays for two guys who are not big difference makers.  Murphy is not a great cover corner, he gets picked on a lot in coverage, decent corner, but for the money Reed was a way better value, I am stunned he got more money than him.  I think Bynum brought far more to the defense than Murphy did and felt like he was the guy to keep in the secondary.

I would have preferred Reed too - but alas...

They did what they had to do with so few picks in 25, the rook QB window opening and some really good players at positions of need available for hire.

On paper the IOL is light years ahead of where its been (for years) and Flores should be able to get home with just 4 right now - thats a huge deal.

Get a DT, RB or DB high in the draft and then get an influx of youth in 26. I think the future is really bright as long as JJM develops and the gods dont take a crap on us.

This dude said this back on February 7th, he's a recent follow for me on Twitter but he's super rock solid with his information:

@CrakRok
#SKOL Vikings QB skinny. As you all saw last night the Vikings had some impressive representation at the NFL Honor awards. If you watched closely you saw one of the owners next to new Coach of the Year. This skinny comes from him.

Let’s get into the good stuff the future QB of the Vikings. As @thorku raked the BS Lions beat writer for spreading total misinformation requiring a community note no less, Sam Darnold is a goner. Why? Let me explain.

As the coach himself stated Darnold has earned the right to pursue free agency and will command 30-40M per year for a new contract. Now I know the franchise tag has been talked about endlessly. That right now sits at 40M per year. I know you wannabe GM’s have talked about the franchise and trade angle. That’s a pipe dream. Why? Because it could end up hurting the team. Why? Because trading a franchise tag player is near impossible and not a situation ownership wants to entertain.

Now I know you all want both QBs next year but it’s NOT happening. Why? First they really like and admire Sam for what he did this year and want the best for him. That means he Sam wants out. I know they can tag him but again that adds to many possibly land mines for next year. They want next year to be as smooth as possible to get JJ up to speed to take over the franchise. Period STOP!

JJ is who they are ALL IN on so having Darnold back could only stunt his growth as their future franchise QB. They simply can’t pay 40M to Sam and have him show those happy feet we all saw in those last 2 games. Those 2 games was the nail in the coffin. That 40M must go to free agency and the draft. This fact, to quote “is set in stone”.

The offensive line and defensive line is priority numbers 1 and 2. To bolster them there is no way to spend 40M on Darnold, the numbers for the salary cap simply don’t work.

The RB situation is not on top of their list. They loved what Cam Akers did last season along with Aaron Jones. Again they want to get that offensive line bulked up for JJ.

On the WR situation again not a top need. With the JJ and the Addison break out along with Nailor and Hock they are quite deep.

To sum up offensive and defensive lines will be upgraded along with the safety position with Harrison close to retirement. To do that Sam is gone no ifs ands or buts. No franchise tag BS but a new era ownership visualizes as next Fran Tarkenton. Yes you heard that right they envision JJ McCarthy as the new Fran Tarkenton no more happy feet Darnold. They watched Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar, and Hurts and know it’s time for JJ to JJ. The End. #JJ2JJ

I dont recall a FA period like this since they flew Winfield/P. Williams out of NY that late, late evening on Zygi's jet

I bet some of the posters here remember being on the Viking Underground right along with me that night.

I’m sorry, but could you explain how either contract is a “huge overpay”? I’ll assume you stated this without the benefit of looking at the contract structure.

And I will assume you based your opinion on not being familiar with the contracts or performance levels in comparison to other players.

No, I’ve seen the details of the contracts. Posted them as well. Someone posted a side by side comparison of statistical data regarding Reed and Murphy. Did you miss that?

Do you have an extra chromosome that precludes logical reasoning? Genuinely curious.

Don't let that dude that goes in and out of jobs like hes a free hooker in Vegas get to you.

The deals aren't that bad. I wasn't a fan of Murphy signing, but it's really an 18 million a year, two-year deal, with an option for a 3rd on what I read and understand. Also, with the DT position so deep in the draft I was not on board with Allen. His deal is 17 million a year with 3 in incentives per season. His 3rd year comes with a dead money cap hit around 4.5 million if we decide to move on from him. So, essentially a two-year deal as well. That is the way I look at it.

We structured them well. It gives us huge flexibility with the draft now. I prefer trading down and getting Judkins at this point. Everything is wide open.
