I would certainly love to see any money spent on Darnold being spent on other areas of need in free agency. I'm not sure if the Vikings are just trying to lock him in as a tradable commodity or what the situation is, but it certainly goes against building around a young quarterback on a rookie contract.

I'm guessing that if they are able to sign Darnold to a multi-year contract, the contract will be backloaded with the first year amount no more than they planned on paying a back up QB.

I'm not sure why Darnold would sign a deal like that when he could make more on the open market, perhaps substantially more.
