Just reported. For a little under the transition tag money. Going to be interesting. Might be a camp battle for the starting gig. If true, I'm surprised.

If true, I believe JJM will win the competition and Darnold will be traded for a high pick when someones starting QB gets injured or craps the bed.

Wait, we failed to protect our QB in big games, again?
MAYBE THERE'S A LESSON HERE.

Multiple years at 30-33 per year is what I said all along makes sense. Sammie is 27 years old and had a wonderful breakout year. I’m no capologist, but I think we could get a small cap hit this year.
I had become resigned in a good way that it was JJ’s time to take over, which he likely will, but as I have said all along this plan would keep us rich in QB assets in a league where QB position will attract great return on the investment.

It would make sense for them to try to get him on a 1 or 2 year deal, but I would be really surprised if he signs without seeing what other offers he can get. Most likely scenario is someone like the Raiders offering a 3-5 year deal that we will be unwilling to match.

Oh, I know we won't do both...I was just commenting on all the pieces involved in the game. I agree on Dimes for a deal vs Darnold at, or near, market value.

I would certainly love to see any money spent on Darnold being spent on other areas of need in free agency. I'm not sure if the Vikings are just trying to lock him in as a tradable commodity or what the situation is, but it certainly goes against building around a young quarterback on a rookie contract.
