I don’t really see Smith, Thielen, or Peterson falling off a
cliff.  They are far too technical for it
to just fall apart once they lose their peak athleticism.  I think they’re all in that category of aging
gracefully where you get solid, but non-peak performance for several
years.  I think it’s more likely that you
run into issues where it’s hard to justify their salary and they won’t take
less here and end up getting one year somewhere else before settling into that
reduced salary/production role.
they wont fall off a cliff, but their numbers might,  aging players tend to miss more time due to injuries that they would have either player through in the past or bounced back much quicker from.  thats where those tough conversations about what they should be making start, and of course they never see their missed opportunities,  only their highlight reels.

Hard to say....you like players to age slowly and gracefully, like Cris Carter and Larry Fitzgerald, but damned if some guys just don't fall off a cliff. Randy was one. There have been dozens of others.

But I agree with you that the ones who do fall off suddenly seem to be the ones who rely mostly on their physical advantages. Thielen's a fast receiver, but I think he's also a guy who can win with guile. So maybe he's got more time.
