I think the question to ask is whether Dantzler is on the Holton Hill path and, if so, why?
I think that's going a little far. No doubt Dantzler flashed some real ability last year, but we have to remember, most of the corners in Zim's scheme take a couple of years to get it. Many of us thought that Dantzler might have been the exception to that when it was more likely he was just the best young corner in a terrible group. That's no longer the case. And Kris Boyd has a year on him.
And if you read the comments by Adam Zimmer were he talked about this, it isn't that Dantzler isn't playing well, but that he has lapses and is inconsistent. Nothing breaks down a D like inconsistent play. Like our fan rated all-pro backup LB that we let walk away, flashing talent and making splash plays is nice, but being in the right spot and the rest of the D knowing they can depend on you is crucial.
well that fan rated all pro looks pretty damn good right now compared to the fan over rated guy that cant find the field for the second straight year, and considering the level of players around him last year was mostly shit, its not hard to understand that things were off. even Harry looked like shit at times last year and was out of position more often than normal. call me crazy, but I would take those splash plays over no plays any day.
but you are right, Dantzlers jeckly and hyde routine will lead to teams targeting him more which will catch to lazy or out of position plays at a higher rate when there is better talent around him.
I would rather have Dye or Lynch get the reps and opportunity that a guy that had been here for years and still didn't know the D. Sorry, but Wilson just wasn't that good. And it shows, he got a meager contract from Philly.

Dantzler hasn't looked good in preseason. Remember when he bulked up and couldn't run? And then he shed the weight and ran faster at his Pro Day or whatever? Seems like he can't play good with additional weight, but gets dinged more when he plays smaller...
Do we know he actually gained weight this year?
I would have to go looking... but I read earlier this off-season that he spent time working out with Ryan Clark to improve not only his technique, but also to train with him in an effort to add some bulk to his frame.

his contract doesnt show shit, the cap was down this year and thats why contracts were down across the league. if Wilson getting a lower 1 year deal says he is shit, what does Barr having to take a massive cut say about him?
and I think it looked like the the plan to replace Barr was Vigil when we are in nickel, which is most the time, not Dye or Lynch, Dye looks like a nice coverage LB, I dont know if he will hold up against the run all that well, but time will tell.
It’s hard to say exactly what the coaches see that separates close performing players, but to my eye Dantzler has played a little lazy at times this pre-season. Call it inconsistent, but to me it’s just not staying detailed.
He was very very good towards the end of the year and hopefully it’s a case of it taking longer to get back into form and he can return to his normal better play.
