Vikings had interest in Trent Williams 'a month ago'
#11
I'm weary of trading for Williams. It doesn't seem like Washington is going to back down from their trade demands, he's already sat out a year, & I don't know where the cap room would come from to sign him, unless Harris or Reiff are part of the deal. LT is also a position where I'd like to upgrade from Reiff, but I'd also be ok waiting a year to address it, especially if we upgrade at guard.

From William's twitter feed last night, it looks like the trade to someone is all but done. The betting money is on the Browns.

If this story is true, I don't blame Minnesota for backing out of it. A 1st is too much:

I don't know how you get a 1st round pick for him considering his age and contract. That is some batshit-level kind of crazy.

Have to question the knowledge of the writer...

The Vikings have Riley Reiff at left tackle, but Williams would be an immediate upgrade there. Minnesota could move Reiff to right tackle (where he played in 2016 with the Detroit Lions). Reiff has two years and $27.15 million remaining on his contract, but Minnesota could save $8.8 million in cap space if the Vikings were to release him.
I guess O'Neill goes back to the bench in this scenario...
