  Darrisaw & O'Neil Update
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-27-2025, 05:10 PM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

Both left tackle Christian Darrisaw and right tackle Brian O’Neill did practice Monday.

O’Neill was inactive Thursday night after having played a full game against the Eagles in his return from a right MCL sprain suffered in Week 6.

O’Connell said postgame that O’Neill had some swelling in his left knee, potentially due to overcompensating for his right knee injury.

O’Neill declined to comment on that but said he’s feeling “pretty good.”

“Back to the training room and see where it takes us,” he added.

Darrisaw played nine snaps against the Chargers before leaving the game. He said Monday that his “body didn’t respond how [he] wanted it to” in-game and he didn’t want to set back his recovery, which he noted has been ahead of schedule. He was originally given a 12-month timeline to return to game action after suffering a season-ending injury in Week 8 last year. He returned in Week 3 this season.

Darrisaw went through an on-field workout monitored by a few staff members before the game Thursday. He said he wanted to move around after the team didn’t practice all week.

O’Connell said Friday that the team not playing another non-Sunday game until Week 17 should help set a consistent rhythm for Darrisaw’s between-game recovery and turnover.

“It’s gonna be really helpful,” Darrisaw affirmed with a smile. “Just having our normal routine. No short weeks. We get all the time that we need to recover.”

Tight end Josh Oliver (foot) and cornerback Jeff Okudah (concussion), who both also made early exits against the Chargers, were not seen Monday.

  We're on to Detroit...
Posted by: comet52 - 10-27-2025, 09:06 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (50)

...to paraphrase Belichick.

The Lions are looking like the NFC's powerhouse team, though I still think Man Campbell's decision-making is inept at times.

But whatever, it's obvious what they are while I don't know who we are at this point.  We have lost 5 in a row to Detroit and 6 of the last 7, and haven't posted a win at Ford Field since 2020.

We are 9.5 point dogs, the biggest road dog  line I've seen for the purple in many, many years.

Thoughts?

Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson is in police custody in Fort Bend County, Texas, according to official jail records.

Peterson, 40, was arrested the morning of Oct. 26 in Sugar Land, Texas on charges of DWI and unlawful carrying of a weapon, according to Fort Bend County records.

The Palestine, Texas native will meet with a judge on Oct. 27 after spending the night of Oct. 26 in jail, a Fort Bend Sheriff's Office spokesperson told the Houston Chronicle. Peterson will be eligible to post bail following his meeting with the judge, the spokesperson said.

The Oct. 26 incident is at least the second drunk driving incident for Peterson this year. The 15-year NFL veteran was arrested in Minnesota on a DWI charge in April, hours after he had made an appearance at a Minnesota Vikings 2025 NFL Draft party.

  Bad Kirk Sighting in Atlanta
Posted by: pattersaur - 10-27-2025, 07:08 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (9)

Cousins started for an injured Penix yesterday at home against a terrible Miami team and the Falcons looked like dogwater.

"If the Atlanta Falcons were looking for verification that they made the right move in switching from Kirk Cousins to Michael Penix Jr., they found it Sunday. If the Falcons were looking for anything approaching optimism on the rest of the season, it was nowhere to be seen in Atlanta’s 34-10 loss to the not-so-hapless Miami Dolphins..."

I feel like the next 10 weeks are an extended preseason to see if McCarthy can be counted on for 26. That’s it.

  Nick Mangold gone at 41
Posted by: purplefaithful - 10-26-2025, 02:59 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (3)

Been battling Kidney disease 1/2 his life...

RIP

==========================================================

Former New York Jets All-Pro center Nick Mangold died at the age of 41 due to complications of kidney disease, the team announced on Sunday.

Mangold died on Saturday night after battling chronic kidney disease for nearly 19 years and was undergoing dialysis.

“Nick was more than a legendary center,” Jets Chairman Woody Johnson said in a statement. “He was the heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football. Off the field, Nick’s wit, warmth, and unwavering loyalty made him a cherished member of our extended Jets family.”

The news comes ahead of the Jets’ game against the Bengals in Cincinnati, where the team is looking for its first win of the season.

On ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown,” Mangold’s former head coach, Rex Ryan, was emotional upon learning of his passsing.

“It’s brutal,” Ryan said with Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss consoling him. “Such a great young man. I had the pleasure of coaching him for all six years with the Jets.

“I remember it was obvious I was getting fired. My last game, Mangold’s injured. Like, injured. He comes to me and says, ‘I’m playing this game.’ He wanted to play for me. That’s what I remember about this kid. He was awesome and just way too young. I feel so bad for his wife and family – rough.”

  Some QB perspective, this morning.
Posted by: Zanary - 10-26-2025, 11:01 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (10)

As we settle in for the torturous wait for one more week before (theoretically) seeing our young signal-caller, again, I was curious about how many starting QBs were injured this weekend.

Hmmm.

Burrow
Penix
Jackson
Daniels
Young

Now, we all expect that Joe Burrow will do something either stupid or random, and miss time each season. Lamar Jackson is almost miraculous in the number of games he has started, given his type of play. Penix had a thorough injury history before ever getting drafted, so this almost seems overdue. Jayden Daniels and Bryce Young are fellow young'uns, peers to our embattled QB, and they're both missing time.

The Browns' big-money QB and masseuse molester is still missing time from last season, though he's a long shot to ever start in the league again.

Kyler Murray and Brock Purdy also have missed time. Google says that 15 starting QBs have gotten injured to some degree this season, already.

While our young'un has barely stayed upright in his career so far, I'm wondering if the NFL is gonna need to start thinking in terms of baseball-style player rotations, even at the biggest positions....
