So um, do we still need to fire everyone?

WHAT A WIN! Turns out the sky isn't falling, our coaches can still coach, our GMs can still GM, and our QB CAN SLING IT.

Really nice road win against a good team. Great job, Vikings.

Let's see what this team can do without half the starters being hurt and having to navigate bye weeks, Eurotrips, and TNF games. Methinks it can do well!

SOUND THE GJALLARHORN~ Hmm-HMMMM!

4 Keys to Beating the Lions

1. Win the Damn Turnover Battle
The Vikings intercepted opponents’ passes 24 times last season — 24 times. This year, Minnesota has logged three picks. The discrepancy is glaring. The mission and outcome are pretty damn clear when O’Connell coaches a football team: when his squad wins the turnover battle or breaks even, it wins. When it doesn’t, they lose.

2. Run the Football, Do It Efficiently, and Don’t Abandon the Run
No Vikings tailback, fullback, or quarterback has topped 57 rushing yards in a game since Week 3. Put another way — it’s been six straight weeks without anyone cracking 60 on the ground. When the team has fallen behind on the scoreboard — and even when it hasn’t — the Vikings abandon the run and throw the ball with a mediocre passer like Carson Wentz under center. This doesn’t work. Minnesota must run the ball efficiently and run it often. If McCarthy is asked to throw 40 times or more, the purple team will lose.

3. Competent Play from J.J. McCarthy
Speaking of McCarthy, good lord, does this man need an impressive game to tame the fears of Vikings fans. Everyone’s last memory of him was a heinous Week 2 showing, in which McCarthy looked lost, silly, and unprepared. Folks can dissect Minnesota from head to toe this season, hoping to find out why it has a losing record. But the fact remains that quarterback play is the smoking gun. For example, if Wentz had not failed to see a couple of open receivers against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7, his team would be 4-3 right now, not 3-4. The vibes would be markedly, markedly different.

4. Defensive Containment
Perhaps the magic potion is holding Detroit under 30 points. That would mean defensive containment is the answer. Fans should understand that the Lions will “get theirs,” but anything at 30 or more will result in another loss.

I know they are usually the best roster money can buy, but damn they are loaded year after year and that's no different this year.

Julian Sayin- probably wins the Heisman and looks like the second coming of Baker Mayfield

Jeremiah Smith- best receiver and best player in college football

Carnell Tate- Smith's running mate and will be a first round pick himself

Arvell Reese- Micah Parsons part deux.

Sonny Styles- freaky athlete and Reeses running mate. First round pick all day long

Caleb Downs- probably wins the Thorpe award and some have him as the top player in this draft regardless of position.

...and the list goes on. NFL factory year after year. Can anybody beat them this year? I don't see it. I'd take the Ohio State roster right now over the Titans roster

Perhaps our worst team stat, can it be fixed?
Posted by: Bullazin - 11-01-2025, 11:32 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (18)

We are giving up 130.4 yards per game on the ground. Unless we fix this, we are cooked.

Can it be fixed is the question?  I haven’t broken down games or anything, but we showed we can contain the run very well case in point, the Philly game, with Barkley and an excellent offensive front.

Does Gink help this?  IDK but Atlanta and the Chargers had their way with us, the latter doing it against a healthy front 7 minus Gink of course.

Hargrave and Allen have both underperformed sadly and with Pace and Theo Jackson struggling, what can we do?

A cool or cold & dark midwest night

The crunch and smell of leaves and autumn.

The thrill of the new costume, counting and consuming candy...

Best of all for me? The scary movies and stuff that goes bump in the night.

That's my jam!

  Today's injury report
Posted by: NorseFeathers - 10-31-2025, 03:33 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (4)

https://www.dailynorseman.com/minnesota-...ury-report

Additionally, Javon Hargrave, Jonathan Allen and Harrison Smith were limited in Friday’s practice with veteran rest days and will play on Sunday. Jay Ward did not practice on Friday due to a personal issue but also has no injury designation for Sunday’s game.

Kevin O’Connell said he expects Andrew Van Ginkel to play, which is a key addition to the Vikings defense. I believe O’Connell said that O’Neill would be questionable for the Lions game, but on the actual report he has no injury designation. In any case, I expect both O’Neill and Darrisaw to start on Sunday. Josh Metellus was a late addition to the injury report as he was limited on Friday with some foot soreness. I’d expect him to play Sunday as well, however.

Ham, Okudah, and Oliver have been ruled out for Sunday’s game as expected after not practicing all week. But overall, this will be as close to full strength as the Vikings have been in any game this season.
