Strib RandBall: Vikings make right choice on McCarthy

Not sure I've ever seen the total Twin Cities media, dinosaurs included, be such fan boys of a QB like they are with JJM. All of them.

"RandBall: In doing the right thing with J.J. McCarthy, the Vikings embrace uncertainty
After more than a week of Aaron Rodgers rumblings, the Vikings have charted a clear path with J.J. McCarthy. But it’s clear the Vikings want their faith in McCarthy to be communicated to the masses."

From Fox NFL Confidential: https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nf...ay-bengals

"It's McCarthy's turn. He's the big bet. The Vikings traded up to No. 10 to draft him, and after missing his rookie year due to two knee surgeries (the second being more of a cleanup), the team is fully invested in his development. They believe he has the tools to become a franchise QB."

OT: Jumbo Shrimp, Military Intelligence, Business Ethics

Just got a call from a recruiter about a potential job working for a top 3 bank. She wanted samples of technical documents I had previously produced at other firms. I said that’s a complete non starter for me as that is no longer my intellectual property to share. This happens frequently to me and my answer is always the same.

I’m starting to think the gig economy is the way to go the next 5 years. I’m definitely not ready to retire but I’ve got little patience for this kind of bullshit.

Anyone deal with unethical practices on a routine basis?

I've seen enough. Extend Kwesi already

I realize that Kwesi whiffed badly on his first draft.
He realizes it too.

But then I saw a strange concept called a "competitive rebuild" with a masterful Head Coach who was able to get the most out of players.
So he mortgaged the future, and the cupboards were bare for 2025, as he traded away almost all of our draft picks over the past two years for current players...some were studs (Hockenson), some were bandaids.  I get that.
So here we are, in his third FA season, and the Competitive Rebuild seems complete.
I cannot argue with what he has done to stack the roster, and he has kept a lot of his powder dry for the inevitable cap cuts that will be coming.
A Master Class.

Maybe there is something about this Wall Street analytical approach?

  Cousins just complicated things
Posted by: Montana Tom - 03-19-2025, 01:04 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (11)

Kirk Cousins will reportedly refuse to show up for the Atlanta Falcons' offseason activities as he prepares to spend next season behind Michael Penix Jr.

The Falcons chose to keep Cousins on their roster past last week's deadline. As a result, the quarterback's $10million roster bonus that is due in 2026 became fully guaranteed.

That decision also granted the Falcons additional time as they weigh the 36-year-old Cousins' future with the team.

Atlanta is all in on quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as the face of the franchise.

But the decision has clearly frustrated Cousins, who will now opt out of the team's spring workouts and practices.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer said: 'Cousins doesn't plan on showing for the offseason program. He may show for mandatory minicamp to avoid taking the fines.' Kirk Cousins will reportedly refuse to show up for the Atlanta Falcons ' offseason activities

In his return from a torn Achilles and debut season with the Falcons, Cousins said arm injuries were a detriment and led to him being benched in favor of Penix in December.

Atlanta selected Penix eighth overall in last April's draft shortly after Cousins signed a four-year, $180m deal with the Falcons.

At last month's NFL Combine, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said he was 'disappointed' with the way things ended for Cousins and Atlanta.

General manager Terry Fontenot added the move to Penix was entirely a 'football decision'.

Teams are not expected to offer a draft pick for Cousins, 36, because of his onerous salary.

'Michael Penix is our quarterback. We stood here last year and talked about looking for that guy,' Morris said of whether Cousins was still competing to start. 'We think we found him.'
