  Keenum + Sloter for 2018?
Posted by: Jor-El - 11-19-2017, 09:09 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (72)

OK, time for me to get off the fence about Keenum: he could be our QB for the rest of this season and maybe beyond. He said he wanted to stay here this week, he and his wife love it - that's a signal to go forward with extension talks.

Bradford: unless he stages a surprising return to health AND pushes Keenum to the bench AND takes this team really far in the playoffs AND convinces physicians that his knee is going to be healthy long-term, has probably completed his Vikings career.

Bridgewater: maybe he will sign a new deal with the Vikings, but if they commit to Keenum, I think he is more likely to try his luck elsewhere. There are always teams in need of a QB, and there have been hints he would love to go home to Miami (who will be done with Jay Cutler soon). Unless the Vikings change their minds and toll his contract - and win a possible challenge - I think he will leave in free agency.

If I had to bet I think the Vikings will extend Keenum and sign another QB to compete with Sloter as his backup.

I really enjoyed his insight in the game.  Much better than some of the commentators we normally get.

Yep, nobody gave us  chance against the rams. Nobody believed we are as good as we are.
Could we falter? She we could but everyone still put us behind the Saints, after beating them, and no one picked us to win today.
What this game has shown me is that we deserve more respect. We can compete!!!

Is he inactive this week? Why? Makes me nervous that the defense will not get lined up correctly.

TV, Vikings on Fox, Macy's parade
Posted by: Montana Tom - 11-19-2017, 04:40 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (11)

This past early summer, I tried to upgrade to wireless internet/internet TV (Roku), and free, over-the-air HD TV.  I killed our local phone company service and went with VoIP, DirecTV and a local (spendy) internet provider who could not even deliver 3.0 mbps speed out here in the country.

I got an HD antenna, but have not been able to get local stations.  I was given an ultimatum by the Trophy Wife that I better have NBC by Thanksgiving morning so she can watch the Macy's parade...OR ELSE!  She has watched it since she was 4 years old, and she has NEVER missed it, and the gauntlet was thrown down.

So I reviewed the split antenna from the new HD antenna (finally), had to replace the connector, and still could get no signal.  I fiddle-farted around with the settings, and found that i needed to scan/find the local HD TV stations and get them "found" in the tuner.

I now have 49 FREE TV stations in HD, plus all the internet TV station options in Roku, (I do subscribe to Sling), and we not only get the NBC affiliate in HD, but I get CBS in two time zones, ABC, Fox, Public TV (four of them), and a bunch of other over-the-air channels that I have not figured out.

So because of the Trophy Wife's demand and ultimatum, I can watch today's Vikings/Rams game at home, instead of at the local sports bar.  And I can watch the Vikings-Lions game early Thursday morning, whilst I get the turkey and related food-prep ready...at home.

Thank you to the Trophy Wife for this pre-Thanksgiving gift!  There. I said it.

Pat Shurmur Is Behind The Vikings’ Evolving Offense
Posted by: purplefaithful - 11-19-2017, 03:07 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Minnesota Vikings had their starting quarterback for six quarters.
Their starting running back for 15.
They’ve had starting receivers and linemen miss multiple games.
Yet, they’ve got a top-10 offense.
Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has been masterful this season, using a variety of different personnel groups, making for an incredibly diverse and unpredictable offense — thanks to a constantly-expanding and evolving playbook.

Vikings nose tackle Linval Joseph will swallow opponents whole
Posted by: purplefaithful - 11-19-2017, 02:12 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (4)

Linval Joseph is 6 feet, 4 inches and 329 pounds of muscle and intimidation who benched 550 pounds - in high school. The NFL is stocked with size XXXL men who possess uncommon strength. Then there is Vikings nose tackle Linval Joseph.
“He’s like the Hulk,” safety Harrison Smith said. “He’s a level up from the normal [NFL] strong.”
Joseph is 6 feet, 4 inches and 329 pounds of muscle and intimidation. The room shrinks when he walks through the door. He makes a normal-sized adult feel like a No. 2 pencil.
“He’s a strong, powerful man,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said.
How strong? Joseph once benched 550 pounds. In high school.
“He’s a monster,” offensive guard Jeremiah Sirles said. “He’s one of the strongest guys I’ve ever seen.”
Joseph is revered on a defense filled with Pro Bowl players and alpha male competitors. Teammates gush about him in reverent tones. Or with anecdotes.
“He’s an anchor,” defensive end Everson Griffen said. “You’ve got that big cruise ship. He’s the anchor. Boom.”
That’s where their defensive dominance starts, right in the middle with an immovable object. ProFootballFocus.com ranks Joseph among the best interior defenders in the NFL, and one can argue that no other nose tackle plays the position more forcefully than him.
