  2010...
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-07-2017, 12:52 AM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (1)

Guess which team was 6/6 and then went on to win the SB?

2017; Guess which team is 6/6,  getting their franchise qb back?

Just saying...Not sure the defense is there this year, but lightening tends to strike just east of here. That Lamblow game wont be easy on Xmas eve. Division games never are.

Maybe this will finally be the year the 10/2 team wins it all...

Reusse: Why wasn't Keenum drafted? Ex Gopher solves mystery...
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-06-2017, 11:50 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (7)

Vikings quarterback Case Keenum was so good, he made and broke coaching careers at HoustonTony Levine, a former Gophers wide receiver who coached at the University of Houston, said that pro scouts "tried to come up with every reason they could to ignore" Keenum's college statistics and success.Levine was a receivers and special teams coach for Sumlin from 2008 to 2011, the bulk of Keenum’s career. He saw the amazing performances from Keenum, and also what happened to the Cougars in 2010 when Case tore an ACL in the third game of the season at UCLA.
“We started 2-0 with Case,’’ Levine said. “We lost when he got hurt at UCLA, and went 3-7 over the last 10 games of the season.’’
Keenum had redshirted as a freshman in 2006. In January 2011, he was awarded another season by the NCAA due to the third-game injury. That made Case a sixth-year senior as the Cougars finished 13-1 and wound up No. 8 in the national rankings.
Maybe that was it … the NFL teams thought Keenum was too old to draft at 23? Or his arm was tired from throwing 2,229 collegiate passes?
“I can remember vividly an NFL scout telling me, ‘If Case was two inches taller, he would be drafted in the first round,’ ‘’ Levine said. “And the other thing you always heard was, ‘He’s a system quarterback.’
“They tried to come up with every reason they could to ignore the stats he had and the games he won. Whenever I talked to someone from the NFL, I would say, ‘Those stats and wins … they were not by accident.’ ‘’

  OT: RIP Ralph Jon Fritz...
Posted by: purplefaithful - 12-06-2017, 11:46 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (3)

Us locals darn near grew-up with him...

Ralph Jon Fritz, the long-time WCCO sportscaster, has passed away after a long struggle with stomach cancer. He was 78. Mark Rosen, who worked for decades with Fritz, said his friend never forgot the fact that he was a small-town kid from Sleepy Eye, Minn."He never lost that folksy, homespun way of doing his work," Rosen said Wednesday. "Cornballish? Yeah, sometimes. But Fritz could pull it off."

  Percent Chance Vikings are 14-2
Posted by: PSBLAKE - 12-06-2017, 11:41 PM - Forum: The Longship - No Replies

I posted a thread a couple weeks ago predicting this and added a Poll.  I am just going to throw out the question what percent chance do you think the Vikes end up 14-2 and with the top NFC seeding?

I am going to stick with my prediction this team is only getting more dominant on defense and precise on offense.

Gedeon, Waynes and the run defense.
Posted by: greediron - 12-06-2017, 09:44 PM - Forum: The Longship - Replies (2)

This comes from the article on Gedeon
https://purpleptsd.com/ben-gedeon-is-def...ectations/

Obviously
the article focuses on Gedeon and how he has exceeded expectations in
the run game.  But to me, the two gfycat images are more about the
unselfish play of the defense.  And more surprisingly at the willingness
of Trae Waynes to stick his nose in there.  He said to have a lack of
toughness, not a willing tackler from what I remember of his draft
report.

But look at the two images.
