Anytime a QB crosses the line of scrimmage he cannot slide.  Period.   Make them pay for their yards.  ZERO protection ONCE he becomes a runner.   Its a joke what they expect the defense to do.  Saw it in the Oklahoma vs ISU game Saturday night.   Just like the hit from Smith, its RIDICULOUS what they expect these defensive players to do.

It's tough in a bang/bang play to keep the helmet up, damn near impossible.

Fans luv scoring and the league wants to cater to that. With all the RPO and derivatives? I can't ever see them pulling back from the qb protect rules.

NFL inches closer to CFL/Arena Ball every year.

Defenses were de-clawed years ago. Concussions have cost the NFL a lot of money and bad publicity so this is what you get. Also, nothing worse for a league that lives on star power to have a guy injured from head to head contact and be out for the year or several weeks. The NFL has enough injuries without that.

I think one thing you are seeing with NFL ratings after the taking a knee deal and COVID is although the NFL still gets very good ratings, any other league would KILL for them. they are only getting exceptional ratings now for exciting match ups. Less people are watching the garbage games or the games they anticipate to be garbage (national games with shitty matchups). For some, watching a good Netflix movie or series is better than watching Miami vs. Cincinnati. Didn't used to be that way with less entertainment options.

Thats a very good point about more entertainment options. This has become a reality in our household. It takes a very good game (at the right time) for me to watch NFL football thats isn't a Vikings game.

Honestly, there are more SEC college games I'd watch before non-Viking NFL matches.

When we recently upgraded our TV, we got an Apple TV box as our main interface/op system.

Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix, HBO+, Hulu, Tubi and we're just scratching the surface. There is so much out there. Heck, we've cut our Dish bill in more than 1/2.

And we dont watch tv till 8:00 at night either. Not at all during the day.

If the game is just teams running up and down the field scoring every 4 minutes, do people lose interest?  It seems too easy for offenses now.  The challenge of getting a tough score or the fun of seeing your team stop the other guys is going away.   The NAFL has arrived.  National Arena Football League.
