Vikings to sign QB Jake Browning, tackle Aviante Collins to practice squad
The Vikings are signing quarterback Jake Browning to the practice squad, a source said Sunday.
The Vikings on Saturday waived the undrafted rookie from Washington and he cleared waivers on Sunday.
The Vikings kept just two quarterbacks on the active roster in starter Kirk Cousins and backup Sean Mannion. They waived third-stringer Kyle Sloter on Saturday.
Sources said the Vikings also are adding tackle Aviante Collins and defensive end Stacy Keely to the practice squad.
Also, a source said that cornerback Craig James, waived Saturday by the Vikings, will have a workout and meet with the Eagles on Monday in Philadelphia.
On a side note the Vikings made no claims on waivers...

Vikings fill final practice squad spot with K Chase McLaughlinEarlier today, the Minnesota Vikings filled nine of the ten spots on their practice squad with players that had been with the team throughout Training Camp. They filled the tenth spot with a player they saw a few days ago that fills what is, apparently, the most cursed position in the league.
According to the team, who put the message out on Twitter, the Vikings have added kicker Chase McLaughlin to the practice squad.
McLaughlin played his college ball at Illinois, and signed with the Bills as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. In his final year with the Fighting Illini, he was the B1G Kicker of the Year and First-Team All-B1G.
McLaughlin was 3-for-3 on field goals this preseason, including a 54-yarder that he connected on in the preseason finale against the Vikings in Buffalo. Given that the Bills already had a well-established kicker in veteran (and former Vikings camp body) Steven Hauschka, McLaughlin was let go and now has a home in Minnesota.

I like that they were able to hold onto Blasingame, Collins, and Downs. Mitchell didn't have a great preseason, but he was an intriguing prospect and our depth at WR is thin right now, so it's good to have someone who knows the offense. Even with the offense utilizing more multi-TE looks and Smith being able to line up as a WR, I still think we need to add another WR. At this point they may be waiting until after week 1, so they have more roster flexibility.

Vikings fill out practice squad, including signing quarterback Jake BrowningQuarterback Jake Browning will move up from fourth to third string in Vikings practices.
Browning, an undrafted rookie who was waived Saturday, was among nine players signed Sunday by Minnesota to the practice squad. He will get reps in practice after starter Kirk Cousins and backup Sean Mannion. The Vikings on Saturday waived third-string quarterback Kyle Sloter, and a source said Sunday he will join the Arizona Cardinals practice squad.
The Vikings also signed to the practice squad linebackers Cameron Smith and Devante Downs, wide receiver Dillon Mitchell, tackle Aviante Collins, fullback Khari Blasingame, defensive end Stacy Keely, cornerback Nate Meadors and kicker Chase McLaughlin.
A source said wide receiver Davion Davis will be the 10th player signed to the squad, which has a 10-man limit. After being waived Saturday, he flew home to Texas. He was then notified Sunday he was wanted for the squad and flew back to Minnesota.
Davis took a spot on squad that had been held for wide receiver Brandon Zylstra, who was waived Saturday. Zylstra said he had an offer to join Minnesota’s squad before being picked up Sunday on waivers by the Carolina Panthers.
Kicker-punter Kaare Vedvik, who was released Saturday, also had a practice squad invitation, according to his agent, John Perla. After Vedvik was claimed on waivers by the New York Jets, the Vikings instead signed McLaughlin.
McLaughlin, an undrafted rookie who was waived by Buffalo on Saturday, could provide competition for kicker Dan Bailey. He holds the Illinois school record of making five field goals of 50 or more yards. During the preseason with the Bills, he made all three of his field-goal attempts.
Smith, taken in the fifth round, and Mitchell, selected in the seventh round, were the only two Minnesota draftees from April who did not make the 53-man roster.
The practice squad includes two players with regular-season experience for the Vikings. They are Collins, who played in three games in 2017 before spending last season on injured reserve, and Downs, who got into 11 games last year as a rookie.
Tight end Cole Hikutini, waived by the Vikings on Saturday, joined the practice squad of the Dallas Cowboys. And a source said that cornerback Craig James, also waived Saturday, will have a workout Monday with the Philadelphia Eagles.
