Breaking news - Andrew Luck retiring

I feel bad for him. The front office did him no favors. The Colt fans burning his jersey are ridiculous. It was completely classless to boo him.
I'm not sure everyone was booing "him" as much as the situation. A lot has been said about the timing and here there is discussion about his (tough) injuries; put them together in a homerish perspective and perhaps a lot of those boos were directed towards the front office - years of "dealing with" Lucks playing status with a front office that never seemed to attack the reality of his situation. ... there are rumors that the front office "knew" at the beginning of the year.
Put this in Vikings context - take that Sam Bradford experience all the way to his injury. Say we declare him the starter 'next season (when he's healthy)', refuse to sign real competition, never move on, keep telling the media 'we're waiting' every month for years after, seemingly refuse to upgrade the position or even put ourselves in a position to move on. We take a lot of lumps waiting for Sam's return over multiple years. We hear non stop how much better it is and not to worry. Boom, 15 days before Week 1 he retires. ... I would imagine most of the angst over this situation would be the "sky is falling" variety - where it literally has been for years while the organization pretends it doesn't exist.
I can look back at some of our confusing QB decisions (the ones that seem GREAT on paper) and the frustration that came with them and feel frustrated for Colts fans who have been told non stop to patiently wait for... this. Their front office has pacified their fans for a long time pretending Luck's injuries were not a big deal (including one offseason where their front office insisted he would play the 'upcoming season' knowing damn well he couldn't/wouldn't) - they didn't exactly draft or prepare for anything else - and their GM has gone on record after the fact talking about Tiger Woods "comeback" still in total denial...
So many signs that something was wrong there constantly upended by NFL media or their front office. Andrew got the short end of the reaction stick over this stuff. He's got every damn right to retire with that injury resume... I don't think very many people won't or don't feel empathy for the injuries he's dealt with.
That's all. There definitely are some who are making it too personal and taking it too far - burning jerseys? Come on.

I was devastated when the news broke last night. I was hoping it was some sort of sick joke or something, but then I saw Schefter was the one who broke it. Then I knew.
It was very unfortunate the way it all played out. Too bad he couldn't do it on his own terms and avoid the booing. He deserved better than that all the way around.
Luck was one of the good ones. He was probably my favorite non-Vikings player. Sucks for the NFL, but I respect him for doing what was best for himself and his family. It couldn't have been easy.
...time to adopt a new favorite non-Vikings player. Mahomes?

Sad but true but some people don't know the difference. My son does that all the time when watching any sort of military movie. He will say they aren't using the right tanks, uniforms, etc.
