...is lack of injuries. Without a doubt. Your season can be over before the regular season even begins. I see more and more coaches loath to play starters much and its a trend. Franck Reich (Indy HC) just opened his presser by saying he's had a change of heart and won't play many of his starters in preseason game 3. I applaud him. Nothing more aggravating to me as a fan to see an important starter injured during preseason. Its f#$%ing stupid.

I endure the NFL preseason more than have any kind of enjoyment as a fan, fingers crossed nothing too bad happens injury-wise.

Well we're seeing injuries in training camp as well. The players get hurt going non contact drills at half speed. The worst example is how Teddy was injured. It's a conundrum that happens every PS, and the 3rd game is usually the starters for the 1st half. TBH in these games my primary goal is to try out the 2nds and 3rds and stay healthy and also to get together with the fan club B)

you're right of course - No injuries....It can happen at any time however.

My sons teammate blew an ACL at a damn trampoline park.
Player at our HS took a hit to the collar bone....doctors x-rayed it, and said he was fine....three days later in the weight room his colar bone snapped.

But that rationale doesn't really wash, that injuries can happen anytime. The vast majority of NFL injuries happen playing football. You play them less in meaningless games (preseason) and the odds go way down they will be injured before the regular season starts, which is what I'm talking about.

H & R Block makes the most mistakes on tax returns: because they DO the most tax returns. I get why head coaches are playing their starters less.

Theres got to be something in getting live hits. Not sure how much it takes to get up to speed but players like cook will need a game or two to get up to speed.

But if other coaches are doing the same things, which they are, then their stars also need a game or two to get top notch. That's why I'm saying this: rest these guys and if they aren't 100% optimal game 1, who cares? They are at least healthy.

Injuries eh?   And here I thought the important part was the fans carving Kyle Sloter's bust for Canton.   =)

I think it's more important for some players and positions than others... I mean by this rationale let's cut out all contact drills in training camp then as well....

I would like to see PS injuries now  compared  to prior to the current CBA where they really limited contact drills and offseason programs.  It seems we have more injuries now with less contact than we previously had,  stands to reason that if they take away more contact that number could actually increase.

Personally if a star is going to get hurt I would rather it be week 2 of the preseason than the 2nd quarter of the first game so we can get the back up prepared for a starters role and not cut the 3rd string guy or to have time to scour waiver wires at cut down time for a better back up.

Yes the games are meaningless, but I dont think injuries can be avoided in many cases,  it's just a matter of conditioning and luck.

Here's the better question: why are you and I up so damn early on a Saturday morning?  :p

My reason: the wife is snoring big time (went out for cocktails last night) and we've got thunderstorms rolling thru. The dog is scared shitless and insists on sleeping right on me for support. I've got 5 inches of bed space while my little chainsaw keeps sawing logs. Time to put the coffee on.....
