We finally had a perfect day of kicking from Dan Bailey! The results:

  1. 51 yards, left: GOOD
  2. 33 yards, middle: GOOD
  3. 33 yards, middle: GOOD
  4. 55 yards, left: GOOD
  5. 33 yards, middle: GOOD
  6. 40 yards, middle: GOOD
  7. 33 yards, middle: GOOD
Chad Beebe was the holder for each kick, and each snap from Austin Cutting was right on the money.
Kaare Vedvik did all of the punting and kickoffs on Tuesday, showcasing his powerful right leg. Each of his kickoffs to Badet and Bisi Johnson were at least a few yards deep in the end zone. The majority of his punts had plenty of height and distance, highlighted by a 61-yard boomer that made Mitchell back up about ten yards. Meanwhile, Matt Wile did...well, nothing. Apparently Wile cut his left thumb on some equipment in a bizarre accident during the game in New Orleans that’s keeping him out of practice.
----------------------------------------------------------
The new guy, Kaare Vedvik (pronounced CORE-ee VED-vik), seems to be getting work on kickoffs and punting...  with Wile out with a cut thumb, this competition could be over quickly.  Also, it seems this trade might have had a positive effect on Bailey.  He finally had a perfect day of kicking at Training Camp.  Hopefully this continues...

Its all clicking it seems with Beebe and Cutting getting dialed in. Zimmer said Cutting has a little more zip and oomph in his snapping.

Yep - and now that we are allowing our kicker to work with just one snapper and holder, he can get his timing down pat. Amazing how what seems to be a little thing (slight differences between snappers techniques and a holders technique) is such a big thing for successful FG's - really shows how important just fractions of seconds can be the difference between making or missing a FG. Happy we are done with experimenting with different snappers and holders.

It's very possible that we keep both Vedvik and Bailey. Vedvik punts, kicks off and takes all the field goals over 45, while Bailey does all the PATs and field goals under 45. I don't think there has ever been a specialist in the NFL who has done all three, but I do remember a few situations like the above.

FRANK Corral from the rams in 1981 was the last.

Clarity?  I'm more confused than ever.  :)  I thought the Vikes wanted a new kicker, not a punter.  Looks like they got both with Vedvik, but now they might keep Bailey and get rid of Wile?  I thought they were ok with Wile, but were concerned with Bailey.

Clear as mud, I guess.  This should be interesting to see how the new guy gets used.

i projected this outcome when the trade went down.  they havent been happy with Wile as evidenced by them using AT and Beebs to take PK snaps at holder.  if all Wile could do was punt that is to limiting for a roster spot.  Beebe being a full time holder is pretty much cementing his roster spot IMO.

They wanted a new punter.  They worked out some punters this summer, one that i play basketball with, and so it isn't surprising that he is punting and doing kickoffs.  Guess we will see if they trust him with FGs eventually.

I haven't been following things all that closely this summer, so I must've missed that they were punter shopping.  I thought recently they were getting concerned with Bailey missing FGs in practice, and after so many missed PATs and FGs last season, he'd be the one getting replaced with this new guy.

Thanks for the info, guys.

I didn't see any news about it, I got the info from the guy himself.  Saw that I was a Viking fan and told me to tell them to get off there ass and sign him.
