When stories came out last week about wide receiver Laquon Treadwell being buried on the first unofficial Vikings depth chart of the season, he didn’t read them.
Treadwell, who has been a big disappointment since being selected with the No. 23 pick in the 2016 draft, said Sunday he no longer looks at what the media reports after doing so early in his career.
“I really don’t really pay attention to the media,’’ said Treadwell, listed last week as the team’s No. 5 receiver at best. “I’m just more on what’s going on in the building. … (The media is) a distraction. So I just put it on the distraction list.’’
Treadwell didn’t give a timetable on when he began to block out what the media reported about him. He said as “a young player it’s probably more common than not” to pay attention to it.
Treadwell was listed last week No. 3 at one wide receiver spot. Listed as No. 2 receivers behind stars Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs were Chad Beebe and Jordan Taylor, respectively.
“That’s been the rotation since we came back (for training camp),’’ Treadwell said. “I’m not really worried about the depth chart too much. As long as I continue to do my job and help us win, everything will work out.’’
Treadwell caught just 56 passes in his first three seasons. The Vikings last May didn’t pick up his 2020 contract option, and he is due to become a free agent next March.
Treadwell is in a battle just to make the 53-man roster. Of his $1.8 million base salary for 2019, $1.15 million is guaranteed.
Treadwell caught one pass for 12 yards in last Friday’s 34-25 win at New Orleans in the preseason opener. Head coach Mike Zimmer was displeased that Treadwell was called for an illegal blindside block late in the first half, although the Saints ended up declining the penalty and accepting another Minnesota infraction.
“I made a terrible play in the game,’’ Treadwell said. “That was dumb of me. … I hurt the team. That’s something I’ve got to change.
“I’ve just got to clean that up and play a little smarter, protect guys out there, save a little money in the back end, and make plays.’’
Treadwell is hoping he won’t be fined for the play.

Read the training camp recap day 14.  It says Treadwell appears to only be going at 75% speed during practice when, especially in his case, should be going all out.  Also, it appears Treadwell seemed disinterested in practice.  With that said, no I would not feel sorry for him.

Ron Johnson said on KFAN yesterday that he sees Treadwell as the #5 roster guy right now,  said Zylstra is always hurt and Taylor  and the other rooked not named Bisi are not showing up.  Says Taylor is unable to get out of his breaks and its making it easy on the defense.   Still pretty early, but if Treadwell shows up on ST and is equal or marginally better than the others he makes the roster despite what many fans want or expect.

After 3 years, I'm beginning to give up hope this kid is going to have that "light bulb" moment.  I'm not a professional football player, nor have I played one on TV, but I would believe he should see the level of competition around him in training camp and let that be his motivation to be one of Cousin's "go to" guys.  He doesn't have to be Diggs or Thielen.

At this point, if he can't beat out free agents and rookies, finishing that general studies major at Ole Miss may be in his future.

Treadwell was open quite a bit in the N.O. game.  He did not get many balls thrown his way.  It looked for a while like a memo had gone out to the QBs to not throw him the ball.  I was hoping that Taylor or Zylstra or one of the rookies would break out and make this an easy decision.  I guess that's not happening. Beebe looks like a keeper. So does Bisi.  Otherwise, looks like Treadwell is next in line.  If so, if he is open, throw him the f'ing ball.

Running at 75% when your 5th year option wasn't pick up?

Fuck that.

The one thing that is always in your control is effort.

Should've traded him last year. Could've gotten something for him.

Report: Vikings make Laquon Treadwell available
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/08/14/report-vikings-make-laquon-treadwell-available/

Laquon Treadwell is the fifth receiver — at best — on the depth chart and on the verge of bringing an unceremonious end to his Vikings’ career. So it should come as no surprise to anyone, including Treadwell, that the Vikings are shopping him, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
The Vikings aren’t getting anything of significance for Treadwell, but they could recoup something along the lines of the fifth-round choice they gave up for Kaare Vedvik.
They could find interest.
Although Treadwell has only 56 receptions for 517 yards and a touchdown since the Vikings made him a first-round choice in 2016, Treadwell is due only $1.8 million in 2019.
The Vikings don’t need him.
They have Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs as their starters and Chad Beebe and Jordan Taylor as backups. So Treadwell is in a battle just to make the Vikings’ 53-player roster.
Last week, Treadwell said he is blocking out anything reported in the media, which, since he hasn’t done anything to elicit positive coverage, probably is a good idea.
“I really don’t really pay attention to the media,’’ Treadwell said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “I’m just more on what’s going on in the building. … (The media is) a distraction. So I just put it on the distraction list.’’

He can't get open. Its as simple as that. When he ran a what, 4.65 at the Combine? He doesn't have short area quickness like a guy like Beebe.

He gets open,  not every play, but neither does Diggs or AT.  His biggest issues are when he is on the field he is likely the 4th read at best on most plays,  as he should ne with his performance history, but since his 2nd year when AT and Diggs emerged he has been getting less reps in practice and games and that will hinder the development.

I also wouldn't be surprised to find he has a learning disability.   From the reports he puts in the extra work,  it just doesnt turn into success on the field.

He seems like a likable enough kid and has tried to become a good player,  it just doesnt seem like it's coming together for him here.  Maybe a fresh start would help or maybe he will never get comfortable enough in a system to he able to play fast,  but I do feel sorry for him and wish him the best where ever his career takes him...as long as it doesnt affect our Vikea.

Lots of excuses in your post. He doesn't get open, if he did, he'd have been a part of the offense years ago. Now, sure, he might be open occasionally but not consistently hence why they don't look his way. Learning disability?? C'mon now, is it so hard to say he's just not a starting NFL caliber WRer?

its his 4th year in the league,  he had route issues his first and second year but he turned a corner last year.  people that watch the all 22 talk about him getting open,  he does get open,  he just doesnt have the confidence of the QBs and with his history that is understandable.  I am not making excuses,  but to say he cant get open just isnt true according to those with the information that TV doesnt provide.  When I rewatch the games and key  in on certain players on certain plays,  I see him getting open,  that isnt the issue,  but the kid is burnt here and needs a new start if he is ever going to amount to anything.

So funny. You are making excuses. Do you think the organization didn't want him to succeed? There's a master plan conspiracy to keep him down? It's silly. He's had more than enough time to show his worth and he hasn't. His work ethic isn't in question, so that makes his lack of success even more obvious. He has 1 TD in 3 seasons. It isn't the fans bagging on the guy only, the organization is done with him and they know intimately more than we do. He's going to be replaced by a UDFA and a 7th round draft pick.

The only reason that a few straggler fans still pine for the kid is purple goggles.

He lost the confidence of the quarterbacks due to too many dropped balls during game time situations...and it would be best for Treadwell and the Vikings to part ways, let Treadwell rebuild his game with another team willing to give him a chance.

Looks like Tready officially made the 1st round draft bust list.  Too bad for us and him.  The team really needed a stud WR when he was picked, but they got their needs from a walk-on FA and a 5th rounder.  Strange how things turn out.  Seems like a good dude, and wish him the best.

Might be awhile before we see another 1st round WR picked by the Vikes.  The last few since Moss really didn't work out (Flashy, Harvin, Lobster Claws Williamson).

From Wiki...

"A member of the highly-ranked 2013 University of Mississippi signing class, Treadwell played three seasons for the Rebels. He finished his career as the all-time leading pass catcher in Ole Miss history with 202 career receptions (seventh-most in SEC history) and ranks third in receiving yards with 2,393 and touchdowns with 21, as well as tied for second with nine career 100-yard receiving games. Treadwell managed at least one catch in all 35 games in which he played for the Rebels."

"Prior to the draft, NFL Network's analyst Mike Mayock ranked Treadwell second overall among wide receivers and compared him to Houston Texans' superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. He also gave him a grade of 6.25, only behind Notre Dame's Will Fuller."

Unbelievably, this is the same kid that has:

Career NFL statistics from 2016-2018
Receptions:56
Receiving yards:517
Receiving touchdowns:1

Separation issues, dropped passes, less-than-enthusiastic-practices...whatever.  Clearly the skill set he demonstrated in college didn't make it to the NFL.  I wish him well, but if he has any success at the pro level, it won't be with the Vikes.

If I recall correctly, Treadwell was supposed to be that bigger-bodied, possession type receiver the Vikings lacked.

But he never came back with the same athleticism after that broken leg (or whatever it was)...

Couple that with trouble learning the play-book, running the wrong routes, running routes wrong? And you lose the confidence of the QB.

All of that has unfortunately happened to Treadwell. He's a classic case of drafting for need and it bit the Vikings in the behind.

Yah, time to part ways. There is too much other promising WR talent on the team now to keep him.
