Every year the discovery channel scours the planet looking for shark news....attacks...threats....sightings....rumors......myths......falsifications......births....adoptions....blah blah.

fact is more people in Hawaii are hurt by falling coconuts than sharks..

There's been some really good shows done on Shark Week trying to teach people about sharks.... and then they pull crap like "Capsized", a "based on a true story" excuse to have pretty people get munched by big bad sharks.  Make up your damn mind, Discovery.

No wonder the mako shark just got added to the endangered species list this year.  When I heard that I cringed... those are incredible animals it would be a tragedy to lose.  Heard them described by an admiring scientist on Shark Week last year as "a bullet with a mouthful of razor blades".

Chain reaction.  Great White's favorite food is seals.  Seals had been hunted nearly right out of Massachusetts by 1970. Finally protected by law.  Cape Cod seal population returns.  Sharks realize the Cape Cod buffet is serving again, also return. Swimming people from below look like seals. Oops.

Yep, outside of Australia, shark attacks are incredibly rare.

The Japanese in particular have hurt the shark population and shark fin soup is quite the delicacy in Asia.

Great Whites and Seals have been in protected status for some time now. So yah, we're seeing more of them and that's a good thing imo.

Not all of shark week is shock and schlock.

Some of the shows like the ones filming Great Whites off the isle of Guadalupe are amazing. Deep Blue is a 50 year old female and the size of a school bus. Don't recommend swimming off the isle of Guadalupe any time soon.
