This is huge and why many more states are strongly considering making it legal recreationally.
This will continue to get debated, as it should...I expect it to be near legalized here in the next 24-30 mos.
I think cannabis is less harmful than alcohol, but both are plenty harmful in the hands of people that can't manage themselves or have addictive personalities.
I think the cats out of the bag regarding cannabis; As sticky points out there is too much $$ out there to ignore it now.
I would argue that the stigma part of it is waning as well. While you won't find THC in many CBD products (now available @ your local Kroger) its mainstreaming in a hurry.

I think it's a good thing because there are people who suffer from various medical conditions and actually find relief through it.
