Exciting player. He looks very dangerous at the first and second level. Shifty, great feet, great vision. He makes great decisions behind the line of scrimmage and often gets one on one against the backend of the defense.
There arent a ton of clips of him taking the top off defenses, but that probably makes his stat line even more impressive when watching his stuff... 1400+ yards and 17 tds, not overly skewed by homerun-runs that wont happen at the NFL level.
Seems like a sharp kid and looks to have a multiplicity of tools. Lacks "long speed"? Meh...
Best case, this guy is a 1st down machine. I'm excited to see if his game translates.
1700 yards without a lot of explosive runs...grinder...good initial quickness...soft hands...great replacement for Murray...kid is rapidly growing on me...

Plodding grinder? Ehhh....
You see the 4.6 speed when he's one on one with a safety, but you'd never guess he ran a 4.6 from the time he touches the ball and finds/hits the hole.
He can get to the line quick...long speed isn't there but there's something to be said for consistently getting 5 yards and moving the like at the goal line...we got us some thunder and lightning...
Hope so looking for the hammer to go with cook. Both in the back field cook in motion and off to the hammer up the gut. two series later same set cook in motion touch pass to cook for ten. couple series later same set cook in motion fake hammer--fake cook---diggs for 55 and a td as D bites and holds the line
I'm ok with the the pick, but i have to admit that the lack or top end speed and quickness is confusing. He had success in college but I'm not sure how since he doesnt really seem to have a running trait...must just be slippery and strong.
Mattison wasn't on my radar at all. That's OK, the last player the Vikings took this high who wasn't on my radar was Danielle Hunter. Like Hunter, I think this was an analytics pick.
From what I've been able to find, he looks like an exciting prospect. No long speed, but really nice power and elusiveness. His jump cuts are amazing. Good kid too. Smart, Bilingual, 4.6 GPA in high school. His coach called him a "once in a lifetime" player in terms of his character.
When it comes to backs and receivers there's probably no opinion I respect more than Matt Waldman's and he really likes him...
He's ran darn close to a 4.5 at 221 lbs. He's got a nice jump cut and power. He's not short by any stretch, but he's also not 6'3", so that weight is centered lower and that will give him excellent leverage. He's got good hands. I really do like the pick, he's going to get some touches.
@"BarrNone55" said: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s3AlqkCnrJwI'm really excited about him after watching his highlight video. His 1 cut ability, power, agility(he must have hurdled defenders on at least 4 of those clips) was very impressive. He may only run in the 4.5-4.6 range, but his playing speed in pads looks plenty fast to me. With Cook's injury history, having a player like this to back him up knowing he was a workhorse in College will be a great 1-2 punch for our running attack.
Virtully identical 10 yard split as Ezekiel Elliot...
I know this has nothing to do with talent but this kid is a very humble and intelligent person, and to me where he may fall short in some analysts’ opinions on that natural skillset I think he’ll make up for in intelligence and work ethic. The more I see of this young man the more I like him....I was just not a fan of all the trade backs before we acquired him. That’s got nothing to do with him, though. I think he’s going to be a good player for us.
