Free-agent guard Stefen Wisniewski is visiting the New York Jets today. Source says #Vikings reached out about him late last week after it became apparent Nick Easton was likely New Orleans bound. He's on a fact-finding mission with the Jets and then will see how things shake out

Okay... so maybe we dont have him and even if we did its not that big of a signing.... but if he is deciding between the Jets and the Vikes... history says this one is in the bag.   :p

Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

I would take this guy over that slug Kline from the Titans.

I'd take anyone willing to sign as a guard.  Heck even Remmer at a reasonable contract sounds better then the air that currently occupies our guard spots.

Is Donald Penn still available after Oakland released him?

I think that is still pending... I believe I heard he was going to be released this week.

Just when we start thinking we have him it will com back and bite us!  Jets still have more cap room than us I believe so he may go where the most money is at this point in his career.

He will use our interest as leverage to get more money out of the Jets.

I'll take it, but I'd rather have Kline.

honestly... I am expecting a move to allow the team to still sign 2 FA OL.  It just doesnt seem like Rick to head into the draft with teams knowing exactly what he wants to target.  I see him filling the OL holes with iffy FAs and then wanting to be able to chase those players that he really likes regardless of position.

It would be funny just to see the Jets fans explode again. They certainly throw some major hissy fits on Twitter lol.

With what cap space? All we have is the money needed to sign draftees. So if we sign anyone else, we need to cut or restructure others. Why would anyone sign with a team that needs to do that? The only players willing would be those who have no other offers.

This doesn't exactly fill me with hope. Filling needs with iffy FAs, giving the false impression that we can take BPAs...is a recipe for disaster.

when they move Waynes for an additional 2nd round pick that Rick can turn into a 4th,  2-6ths,  and a contdititional 7th rounder in 2020.

They can sign an O-lineman without making another move. They have $4.5-4.8M in functional space if you want to include rookies. Since they don't need to sign their draft class until June they could use the entire $7M now and work out restructures later on.

everything about this offseason doesnt really fill me with much hope.. just like last year.  We needed interior OL help and Rick shuffled some existing guys around and added some fluff pieces in order to create the illusion that the issue was being handled..last year it was lets move the back up LT to RT, make the RT play RG,  and add some crap,  and then really didnt do anything to actually improve the interior OL.  fast forward a year... lets sign an OT,  move the RT to LT and then make the old LT play LG.

I should be more supportive,  but after nearly a decade of holding my breath waiting for something to change for the good.... its just not there.  I am not going to blame everything on Rick,  the injuries on the OL have been staggering but at some point somebody needs to answer for not having better player waiting in the wings and for not addressing the interior issue much sooner.

At least last off-season they did get arguably the two biggest FAs available at their positions.  Too bad the season still blew up in the Viking's faces, and now we're stuck with an expensive QB that gets killed and fumbles once or twice a game.

It looks to me like more of the same for next season.

The salary cap issues bode badly and reminds me of 2016. When Bridgewater got hurt and the Vikings traded for Bradford, we didn't have enough cap space for his salary, so we increased our trade offer to get the Eagles to pay the bulk of Bradford's salary. Then injuries started hitting and we couldn't afford to sign replacements, I think they had to get someone to do a midseason restructure just so they could sign Jake Long, the cheapest OT available.
I'm not trying to reopen the Bradford trade debate, but when people complain about losing a 1st round pick, they often overlook that it was widely reported that we could have acquired him for a 2nd, but we needed the Eagles to pay $11M of his salary. We bought money and cap space with a higher draft pick. That's what happens when your salary cap is out of control - injuries will happen and we won't be able to react.

James, I'd like to second your feelings. Hope without seeing results gets tiresome.  Injuries indeed have been a nightmare for the Vikes on the OL.
But to spend huge money on a QB yet spend nickels and dimes on the very men paid to keep him upright and healthy is bizarre.  I remember seeing Compton and Remmers literally getting thrown around by the Bears D line in 2018, and not just by Mack.  Is having a short memory a requirement for everyone on the Vikes management and coaching staff?
