I guess my point is, do we keep players past their usefullness to the team? Look at Sherels, now Griffin and Rudolph, who can’t block at all anymore. And i know these guys are good off the field. But its time to concentrate on players production on the field.

“Days like today are really important to me because without the ownership and the way they help us to keep guys like Anthony and Shamar, it’s really, really important and dear to us,” coach Mike Zimmer said. “They’re both great people. That’s kind of the type of players we’re trying to get here: Great people, great players who want to learn and get better, great people in the locker room and help each other get better. They’ll always be Vikings and they’ll always be Zim guys.”

Ok, they have "good guys".   A locker room full of good guys hasn't won a championship and chokes in the playoffs.  So that's what ya got in Purple.  Good guys.  Hurray.

Not sure why he mentions Shamar when they dumped him last year to get Richardson.
That right there sends up the BS flag for me.
I get that he wants to keep his "pet" in Barr.  I would not have paid 13 mil for Barr.
I would rather have spent the 8.5 mil on Jordan Hicks or try to sign Zach Brown who the Redskins released.  That would have given them two 3rd round compensatory picks next year.
Oh well, Barr has a lot to live up to now.
I am guessing they are going to try and transition him to defensive end with that salary.

I am in the minority but I feel much more comfortable paying Barr $13.5M/yr than Kendricks $10M/yr. All I ask is that you go on gamepass and track Barr for an entire game. There are so many indirect impacts he makes on a game that go unnoticed. Unless the Vikings were going to compromise on scheme there were no day one replacements for Barr. I also think you can read between the lines of why they brought back Stephen and said they'd have some new looks (3-4 nickel *cough *cough).

Better than have a locker room full of shit and not winning.  Aka the Bungles and many others.

I like the approach we take.  The concept isn't that they are "nice" guys.  It is that they are character guys.  And when the chips are down, they don't turn on each other or the coaches.  Only 1 team is happy with their end to the season, so 31 have to deal with an offseason of disappointment.  Teams that have a locker room that trusts the coach will keep working.  Teams that have bad character will fall apart after a few years and then it is rinse and repeat.

I don't get the desire to be like the lions or browns where they change coaches as often as socks.  Stability is essential to competing every year.  Yes, crap happens (especially to the Vikings) and injuries and bad bounces can derail a year.  But with stability, the next year is likely going to be a good year unlike those in perpetual rebuilding.

I was all for the Kendriks deal and he regressed bad. I was against Barr getting paid but what you say makes sense. I just want to win
