Vikings show interest in OT Ryan Schraeder

Remmers looked good IN COMPARISON to Clemmings.Remmers knew Minnesota wanted him as a stopgap at RT and would eventually move him inside. I'm sure he figured a move to Guard would prolong his career. It's happened countless times and is akin to CBs moving to Safety.
But Rick, Tony, Zimmer and Remmers were wrong. Guys who transition to new roles later in their careers usually have the Talent to make it happen. Remmers doesn't have the Talent.
Do you think a late career Tackle-to-Guard transition is more likely successful in a power blocking scheme than zone? Age tends to decline mobility more quickly than strength.
unless they were a more finese OT all along in which case they wont likely have the strength (or lead in their ass ) to make the transition at any point.
I think we will see significant improvement this year from last. Remember that our offensive line coach died right before training camp. We didnt have anybody ready to step in and replace him. When adjustments were necessary as the season went on, there wasn't anyone qualified to make them. Playing with a first time offensive coordinator, who didnt play to the lines strengths. Or maybe didnt play away from the lines weakness is a more accurate way of putting it. This year, we have a new, first time offensive coordinator. But, with an experienced one to help him out. Add to that a legit line coach. Remmers sucked as a guard. No one is unhappy that he's gone. In 17, Easton played well. If he is recovered, we have a left guard again. Maybe our new coach can get something from Isidora. Maybe not. We have the draft coming up to add one or two linemen.
We have a lot to look forward to. This is not a team devoid of talent by any means.

still have to get Easton to agree to come back to Minny.
Looks like he has had a lingering ankle issue and last season dealt with concussions. If he checks medically I think he would be a great signing. Especially if they can get him for cheap, only made about 6 million last year and was cut and had a down season. I'd expect him to sign for less than Cann got with JAX at 3 year 15 million.
@"JimmyinSD" said:I doubt thats too much of an issue. We are still an attractive destination for players. New stadium, facilities, etc. He is coming off of a significant injury. Our trainers know his health situation better than any others out there. No one is going to offer him a big contract. Maybe its just me, but I like when we have backup centers playing guards. Just seems as they know their assignments better. I think we have a very good chance to field an average offensive line this year. And sometimes par is good enough to win.still have to get Easton to agree to come back to Minny.
@"1VikesFan" said:@"JimmyinSD" said: "deseperately need help at the position"do we? is OT really where we are desperately thin? Reiff, Hill, Collins, and ONeill. I know they were working Collins into the interior last year, but IMO if we are desperate for anything it would be OGs. Of course we can just kick and OT into OG and we will be fine.
Not sure I'd recognize the Vikes if they weren't shuffling OLineman around every year. :/I know. It's like a damn offensive conga line! It would be sweet if every OT could play guard and vice versa, but this ain't 1957.
@"wiviking" said:fun thing about players that have had two significant injuries---they don't always look at stadium facilities etc. It becomes about how much immediate cash I can get as this gig might not last.@"JimmyinSD" said:still have to get Easton to agree to come back to Minny. Easton and Schrader would be a nice haul for us. allowing for a first round G to round out the line
T: ONeill (Reiff back up)
LG: Reiff - Easton
C: Elf - Jones
RG: Rookie - Collins
RT: Schrader - Hill
Thats a major upgrade versus last year, easily the best line we have put out there since 2015
Reports say Easton to make decision by tomorrow. Saints want him as potential starting Center, and another "mystery" team competing for his services.
Schrader, Kline, Easton - where do you get the money to sign any of them? We're actually a bit short of space to sign our rookie pool. Zimmer is going to want Tom Johnson back, too. Are we offering these guys some money contingent on getting Rudolph to take a cut? If any of these guys have offers from other teams which have actual cap space available now, they should take that offer.
Vikings showing interest in anybody who has starting experience and a pulse right about now.
Desperation.
Kind of interesting that you pay a QB 84 mil guaranteed and then do NOT try to put the best line as possible in front of him.
You would think that they might have wanted someone more mobile if this offensive line strategy was going to be employed.
They could end up with Schraeder and Kline to play RT & RG. Then, they move O'Neill to LT and Reiff to LG.
At least they have some experience.
I wonder when they settle for Tom compton and his potential?

pretty sure they got the rookie pool covered.

pretty sure they got the rookie pool covered.According to Spotrac:
Projected Draft Pool ("not included in cap figure yet"): $6,872,359
Cap Space w/ all players: $4,373,111
Cap Space w/ top 51: $6,848,111So they're within $25K, if they sign no one else.

but those rookies will replace some guys on the roster who are already under contract so you dont need to account for the entire amount under your cap.

Still, a journeyman NFL OL (and that's all that remains) will not pick a team that needs to release bodies after the draft.

I am sure we will have some warm bodies in the position once OTAs start, i am not worried about filling the holes, but filling them with talent is the issue and that pool is draining quickly. I have to think though that they have a plan since the restructured Griffen and didnt cut him outright to get more cap space. I expect one of our expensive pieces to be moved to really open things up but I am expecting it will have to wait for both parties to be ready to do it.
