@"Jor-El" said: Before the 2018 season, there were plenty of people saying things like, "If Cousins can just stay healthy for an entire season that will be great" - and he did. Some said he just needed to get the offense to average 21 or more points per games, the "magic mark" Zimmer has called out as needed for this defense - and he did. He had the 2nd-most passing yards of any Viking QB in a season but some people want to chase him out of town. I think Cousins lost a big chunk of the fan base just by getting caught arguing with Adam Thielen on the sideline against Chicago. Bad enough to argue with any player, but seeming to cross Thielen is unforgivable to a lot of Minnesotans.

His numbers look decent, but we still scored 22 fewer points in 2018 than we did the previous year.  And for long stretches of games, the offense looked absolutely horrendous only to get saved stats-wise in garbage time.  He also seemed to play worse as the lights got brighter and laid a HUGE stinker at home in week 17 against the Bears to miss the playoffs.  So far, I see a lot of the same shortcomings that I heard about him during his time in Washington: that he is a decent QB who will put up good stats, but not put the team on his back and translate those stats into wins.

I thought Cousins played good early and bad late. I think a lot of that had to do with a bad OC and defenses who knew exactly what we were going to to. Let's give him a year with an improved OL and some bigger brains behind the offense and see what happens.

I’ve heard all of that before, but color me very surprised if we see a marked improvement in Kirk’s game next year.  I think at this point, we all have seen who he is in Washington and Minnesota and he is just not a game-changing QB unfortunately, even though he’s being paid like one.

Again, I’d love to be wrong, but I just don’t see it.

is he getting paid like one... or is that pretty much the new norm for starting QBs in the league?  I think he might be on the high end of the average QB scale,  but like we heard so much last year at this time....  his contract will be right in the middle of the scale very soon.

Well for 2019 he's 3rd in the NFL, only behind Rodgers and Ryan, and making at least $3 million more per year than QBs like Wilson, Brees, Roethlisberger, Luck, Brady, Rivers, etc.

how many of those guys have signed new deals recently?  (and Brady is anomoly, he could be making more but winning and setting records is more important to him.)

Brady restructured his suspension season to lower his penalty payment. Being New England wouldn't surprise me if he's getting more under the table. He ain't playing for love and records alone I'll bet.

The rumor has always been discounted ownership stake once he retires.

"Rumor has it" should be their motto. They decided to go with "prove it".
