Trade Rhodes??
Just saw it on the ESPN as a "bold prediction" for the Vikings. On the surface it sounded moronic but he is 29 and makes 13.5k and could bring back some solid value while we still have 4 capable corners.
Let's say we even entertain the idea, what do you need to get back?
I think XR has a lot of tread left...I see TW going first.
It would save about $6.2m. He has a pretty good contract to do a trade. He had a tough year due to injury but he should still command good value. Rhodes should have a pretty lengthy career ahead as long as his body holds up and he’s willing to move to safety eventually. Peters brought a 2nd last year and Rhodes should bring at least that. In fact he’s worth more than that. As hesitant as teams can be to trade a #1 there’s also the option of trading for a top level offensive lineman and midround pick. Player for player trades don’t happen very often but in my opinion this would be my favorite choice.
Trae Waynes is due a new contract so he’s definitely an option. He has proven to be a good corner who is unselfish in playing the scheme assigned him. He’s an excellent tackler which wil certainly be attractive to some schemes in particular. He should have great value.
Shape of position:
We are stacked at corner assuming Mike Hughes is back to form. Even with his abbreviated season what Hughes did show was outstanding for a rookie. He looks to be an excellent pick so far.
Holton Hill is an NFL starter. Could he be a long term starter? I’d say there’s good reason to be optimistic.
Mac Alexander in my opinion had an excllent year. He stepped up his game significantly and I really like what I see.
So who to trade is a big question but should we try to do one I’d lean towards yes.

OTOH, they also acquired Aqib Talib, who was 31 and due to earn $11M, and only gave up a 5th. Talib is a better comp for Rhodes - yes, he was 2 years older but more respected over his career, and similar in salary. Let's say Rhodes, being 2 years younger, can get us a 4th, or maybe even a later 3rd. Still want to trade him? Other teams do know the flaws of our players...trade Rhodes now and his age, contract, and 2018 performance will all be factored in. Also, he has done well here in Zimmer's system, but no one knows if he will be as good elsewhere. Talib had already played well for 3 teams when the Rams acquired him, but there are more cases like Nnamdi Asomugha or Byron Maxwell who struggle when they leave the team that drafted him. Rhodes is more valuable to us than we would get in trade. If you want a nice return of draft picks or player in trade, plan on giving up someone who is on the upswing and inexpensive - not the declining guys we don't want.
I kind of had a feeling since the last game when he opted to not dress that he may get traded. I did not think that well with Zimmer.
It's probably the right move to trade one of them. Good teams find a way to turn areas where they've done well into currency to improve areas where they haven't done as well.
He's hurt alot... and getting older. I think his passion for "bodybuilding" is sapping him of his fluidity.
Rhodes for Osemele straight up
numbers should be similar, extend TW3 and drastically upgrade OG

I like the idea of acquiring Osemele. Would the Raiders make that deal? I think Gruden is trying to dump salaries and get draft picks or younger players, so he wants
Also, I would switch your line priorities. Instead of the DL getting picks 1+3 and OL getting 2+4, isn't it time to prioritize the offensive talent? If this draft is so loaded with DL talent, there should be someone available in the 2nd that got lost in the crowd, and out crack defensive coaches are more likely to turn that into gold than counting on our new offensive staff should be counted on. Seriously - the defensive line has 3of 4 starters under contract who have all been to Pro Bowls (Griffen, Hunter, Joseph), and the young reinforcements are Weatherly, Johnson, Holmes, Odenigbo, and Arunde. Why does that unit get more high picks again?

regarding the picks, my guy says they #1 if they did move Xavier, give Zim greater call on fhe first pick aka defense. #2 strong dt class and frankly we need an upgrade there as this past season, DT was a weakness.I expect at #18 the DT on the board will rank higher than the best OL but could be wrong.
Regardless, I believe we have enough firepower and DBs to spend a majority of the beginning of the draft stregthening the trenches. It wont be sexy but needed
I don't see the Vikings motivation to trade Rhodes unless a team was willing to overpay. Maybe someone would be willing to do that but I don't see teams backing up to offer a 1st or package of a 2nd + mid-round pick. The exact reason the suggestion to move Rhodes has come up, his perceived down season, is the exact reason teams aren't going to offer compelling packages.
In reality Rhodes had the 3rd lowest net yards per attempt against of all NFL corners and has only missed 4 games over the past 5 seasons. I'd argue he's a better bounce back candidate than trade chip. Waynes is a different story.

DT was a weakness - with Sheldon Richardson and Linvalle Joseph starting, Tom Johnson back most of the season, and 2 recent 4th-round picks for depth?
I think it's time to consider that the RESULTS of the interior of our defensive line (trouble with inside running, less-than-stellar pressure) are about scheme or coaching, because we have thrown significant talent into that mix for the past few years.
And - they have to give Zimmer "greater call on the first pick" to ease his pain if we lose Rhodes? Last year, it seemed like we had to do that AND rent Sheldon Richardson to make up for signing Cousins. I don't know if I believe it, but if Zimmer truly gets bothered when the defense sacrifices a little to help the offense...it's time to find a coach for the entire team.
