I'm thinking big losses like playoff games, superbowls...

I suppose like anything, it varies by the individual???

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!

BRobs stated goal from day one was to bring a championship for the Vikings fans.  I believed him on that.

Also probably has to do with if a club hasn't ever won a SB.

It's different but they do hurt like and for the fans over a big loss. I'm sure of that. Even the ones who don't seem to give a $hit outwardly still wished they won it. The difference is they have some control over the outcome the fans never do. After what they want to do is get back at it. They want to play again to prove they are better then that. All we got to do is bitch to fill the time.

i think for some its not really about the fan as it is for themselves... which I understand,  but i get annoyed then when the say its for the fans... some guys just dont sell it well.

I think even the most "me" guys cares about winning as a team. They care more about their teamates then fans. They have to feel the excitement of the fans though. It is different for all as was said.

I think they have empathy for fans. How could they not after witnessing what we all go through? Those Mpls MIracle reaction videos should be a reminder to all players of how nuts it makes us. That said, I don't think players live and die with wins and losses the way we fans do.

This is somewhat off the thread theme, but my wandering mind was working last night after the game.  And as I'm not a pro athlete, maybe I can't understand the immense impact a multi-million dollar contract would have after winning a SB.
But after watching the faces of those players last night after the game, particularly the winning Patriot players, standing with their fellow athletes and family and ownership...how would you not want that feeling every year?  All the grind...all the travel, year-in and year-out.  Offseason workouts, mini-camps, training camps, exhibition games, regular season, playoffs and finally the SB.  Standing on that platform holding that trophy has gotta be a high very few things can compare with.
But to see the free agents bolt a winning program...like the Pats or Rams this year or any perennial high-quality program and take the bucks to play for a bottom feeding non-contender, I just don't get.  Going from a contender to contender I can understand.  But for some, I guess one ring and more money is enough and now it's time to get paid.
But as a fan, getting paid the big money is great believe you me, but taking that physical and mental abuse...concussions, arthritis and a shortened lifespan included....man, I would need a lot more affirmation in the form of championships and playoff appearances to make a career more than a paycheck.
