I'm going to start this thread with the intent of documenting all the OL prospects between now and the draft. Feel free to contribute or mock the gesture...

The Draft Network's Kyle Crabbs lists Oklahoma T Cody Ford as a player who earns a first-round evaluation. Ford (6'4/338) is a player that not only gets varying grades from different analysts, but also varying opinions on where he's going to play at the next level. Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN believes Ford ends up at guard, but Crabbs calls him a starting right tackle. If teams do believe Ford won't "have" to play guard, it's not hard to see him going in the first 32 picks. If teams are a little unsure, it could see the Sooner fall into Day 2.

The DN guys have been hyping him since the Senior Bowl. Sounds like a good fit for us.

Hakeem Butler is interesting. He's going to be very tempting at his size, might even go in the 1st round, but I'd take Deebo Samuel over him every day of the week.

JEFFERY SIMMONSDL, COLLEGE PLAYER
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Mississippi State DT Jeffery Simmons suffered a torn ACL during a pre-draft training session. It is a devastating blow for a player who was expected to be a first-round pick despite not being invited to the Combine because of a 2016 incident in which he was seen punching a woman multiple times while she was on the ground. He pleaded no contest to a simple assault charge following the incident. A big (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) interior disruptor, it is possible a team takes a shot on Simmons Day 2 despite his injury and off-field concerns. SOURCE: Adam Schefter on TwitterFeb 12, 2019, 8:13 AM

Man, if he's there Day 2 in the second, he's worth a redshirt season...

Man, if we could trade back bit in the 1st, grab a guy like Dalton Risner, then come back in the 2nd with someone like Michael Dieter...I think we'd be Gold Jerry, Gold! Figure Elflein improves just by being healthy and not recovering from offseason surgeries, O'Neill taking a leap forward, new O-line coaches....yeah, I'd be pumped.

I'm all about Risner at 18. Guy can play anywhere on the line. And for a team with a lot of moving parts and positional uncertainty that kind of versatility will be huge.

Doesn't get much better than this 3 rounder.

Exactly. No need to get cute. The line can be upgraded tremendously with this draft.

Reached out to several NFL executives about Mississippi state DT Jefferey Simmons. I’ve had four responses so far, and all four say he will fall out of the first round due to his torn ACL.

I'd probably hemorrhage from my eyes if we passed on Edwards in the second and then on Powers in the third...then I'd sharpen a pitchfork...

Good thread. I've held for a while that I'd bump him inside to guard. OT's are more valuable but I think you'd be taking a player who'd be an average tackle and potentially allowing them to be an elite guard. I do think some of this can be corrected with good coaching. Jonah is one of the more polished O-lineman prospects technically but he needs to have more active hands to get D-lineman's hands off his breast plate. Easier said than done since the typical technique would to shoot back on the lineman's shoulder to give you back leverage but the lack of length prevents that. Instead you need to rip the arm off and use athleticism to reset and re-engage.

He sort of reminds me of Kalil. I called Kalil "LT101" because his sets and his feet were textbook. His problem was at the point of attack. That's basically what Ledyard is saying in this thread about Williams... but for a different reason: arm length. All those edge rushers had clearly read their scouting reports on Jonah. Give him the long arm and his little arms will flail about unable to make contact. I think a better name for it is the "big brother." :-)

Where I agree with you (and disagree with Ledyard) is that I think moving him inside should eliminate much of this problem. He's a really good player otherwise. So now I'm very curious to find out at the combine just how short his arms are.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. calls Oklahoma OL Cody Ford an offensive guard and believes he's in the top 25-40 range.Ford (6'4/338) is viewed as an offensive tackle by others and he's generated some minor top-10 buzz in the early goings of #DraftSZN, so this is a bold take by Kiper. The Athletic's Dane Brugler recently polled 12 NFL-types about the 2019 OT class and Ford received the most votes when asked who they believed would end up as the first tackle taken. Kiper's opinion is a reminder that NFL teams will be split on some of these offensive linemen, and it will take a team believing in Ford as an offensive tackle if he were to go inside the first 10 picks.

How do you feel about this projection?

Personally, I'm ambivalent. Guy's a monster but very quick. Perfect LT for a ZBS as he's much more finesse than mauler despite his size.

Fix his leverage issues and his tendency to wait for the DE to engage him and you've got a Franchise LT.

But it's not just the technique, it's the inconsistent performance for a former 5 Star High School prospect.

He can get stronger, but can he get meaner? Is it a motor issue?

I'd be all over this selection but at 36, not 18. The ceiling is very high, but the floor is also lower than Williams or Risner or Taylor or Dillard or Ford.

Agree with all that. I fully intended that "little" double entendre. Of all the guys I watched when I first put on some Youtube, he was the most disappointing. Sounds like he has all the tools, but he seemed really passive to me. Did a lot of standing around. Probably didn't help that I'd just watched a bunch of the OU line. And in comparison to those guys--maniacs all of 'em-he looked like he didn't care.

There's probably a point at which you take a chance on a guy with his size and athleticism, but given his technique breakdowns, inconsistencies and effort issues, he might be a little bit of a head case. Guys like that scare me.

Back flips, touchdown receptions, edge rushing...all at 320 lbs. Is there anything Saunders can't do?
