Interesting read. Would love to see the Vikings draft a guy to sit behind Cousins for 1-2 years (depending if drafted next year or the year after) in the mold and trend of what the NFL's rules and new offensive coordinators are looking toward as the new prototype.

I'm still anxious to see what Sloter can bring; I love the guy's skillset and attitude.  I really hope the Vikings don't lose him before they get the chance to see what he's got in some actual games.

He should get every opportunity next offseason. Siemian isn't signed beyond this year so it's either Sloter or we bring it a veteran. Personally, I think Sloter wins the job and we draft another Sloter late in the draft to be #3.

I don’t think there really is a mold in terms of physical
attributes.  I think the mental makeup is
the biggest thing and they come in guys of different shapes and skillsets.  Consistently making the right read, getting
your offense in it’s highest chance for success and avoiding the horrible
turnovers is what QBs need to do.  If you
draft for physical characteristics first you’re going to more likely than not
be disappointed.  There’s probably only
one or two franchise QBs in each draft and you don’t get to choose what body
they have.

I think what might be trending is more athleticism and ability to move around the pocket in a quicker twitch type manner and not worrying about size as much at the position. That can be a broader 'mold' but when you look at say a guy like Cousins, he looks like he's pulling a sled when he moves around.

You still need accuracy and pocket presence, but the ability to scramble around to pass and buy yourself some time with your own athletic ability in the pocket is a bigger deal than its ever been. Athletes at DE and DT are of a higher caliber than anytime in NFL history and now its time for the QB spot to adapt with better athletes. The threat to scramble for a first down also is killer. More focus on those attributes and less about how tall the guy is.

What do you guys think of Kyler Murray? Would his height (lack of) be an issue in todays NFL? I think not. Dude is a flat out playmaking stud. But it appears he's going to play baseball with the Oakland A's. He would be an interesting modern QB type of guy to watch play in the NFL, I think he would be like Russel Wilson, only better.
