Rudy And The Pick Six
i saw that too looked like a very shallow route. Still it was on Cousins he only had one read
Who was the safety on that play? That guy was wide open with no one between him and the end zone. Was Rudy the safety on that one. Then I'll blame him.
In seriousness. I'll bet Kirk knew he was toast right after he released it. Got to be more aware. He made up for it though.
On the radio they called out rudy for not blocking. Said it was a hot route and he needs to know he has to block that route because it is guaranteed 6 the other way
It looked to me like Rudy blew the block. If the goal was to fake the tunnel screen and then throw deep, then Rudy executed it properly (faking a block then releasing). But since it was supposed to be a screen, he NEEDED to (somehow) get in that guy's way.
I think Cousins explains it (politely with out throwing Rudy under the bus) in his post game interview.
First Cousins says something like, you saw what happened and then Cousins basically said the man is supposed to be blocked or "influenced" and he wasn't. It's bang bang play and when the defender anticipates the play and isn't "influenced" you get a pick 6.
Cousins has to clean up the turnovers big time. Our offense gives up as many points as the defense it seems this year.

I have to believe the play design was for him to at least get in the way a little bit. Kirk just caught the shotgun snapped and threw it right away. Hard to say if he even saw the DB at all as he most likely was looking at Diggs. I imagine the QB is expecting that DB to be delayed in some way. Having said that, it would be nice if Cousins would see that stuff and just not throw it or throw it in the dirt. That would be great if he could do those kinds of things even if the play may not be his fault.
The DB was to close to the LOS IMO to get influenced...play should have been changed or thrown away, rudy would have had to make a diving tackle to get to the defender at the snap the way I saw it. Save those plays for off coverage or at least a 5 yard cushion.
Throw it away. I think the last time he threw it i. the dirt is was considered a backwards lateral and the defense might have even picked it up and scored o. that too.
Let's not make a big deal over one play. It happens. Missed block, wrong call. Let's don't define the whole game over this. We won 41-17. Solid win and helps in the playoff hunt.
In keeping with ArizonaViking's comment above, in golfing, if I remembered my bad shots, I'd never golf again. But when I remember my one good shot, it draws me back to seek the experience again. ;)
Thats the thing about stats
If it was a blown asssignment, it doesnt go on his record
Its a team game all the way through & the FO’s know all about that, thank goodyness
If only the broadcast crew had a 16 yr vet HOF offensive player to breakdown what went wrong on that play from the Vikes' O's point of view to help us understand if Rudy missed the block, Kirk should have audibled out, or what.

Rudy has a fat cap number that will be in play for the 2019 season. Morgan is back and Conklin can catch. 'Nuff said.

1) 51 receptions for a TE is good when your top 2 WRs have 100 or more receptions in a season.
2) look at image below and see Rudolph at 8th TE in receptions in whole NFL. also if you look, only 5 TEs have good stats at all this season. he is better than his stats, but those arent bad objectively.

@"StickyBun" said:Not sure what you expect from a TE with the best receiving duo in the NFL. There are only so many balls to go around.@"MaroonBells" said:51 catches for 493 yards and 2 TDs? I like those guys a lot, but neither is a #1 TE, at least not yet.
But let's say we even replace Rudy by drafting a TE in the 1st round. Unlikely, but who knows? Here are all the TEs drafted in the 1st round, and their first year stats, since we drafted Rudolph.
Hayden Hurst - 10 catches, 102 yards, 1 TD
OJ Howard - 26, 432, 6
Evan Engram - 64, 722, 6
David NJoku - 32, 386, 4
Eric Ebron - 25, 248, 1
Tyler Eifert - 39, 445, 2No, keep Rudolph, honor the last year of his contract and decide what to do the following year. I think the odds are good he signs a team-friendly deal that keeps him here. He's a big part of the community.
