Many thought he should've been given the opportunity before Flip. We'll see.

lets roll these last 3 games. let Stefanski earn the oc job.

our playcalling this year is atrocious. same shit in any and all situstions. no screen game. rudolph invisivle most of the season. almost never establish the run. flip looked emotionless, never any creativity that worked. never any good quick passing game to negate horrible oline.

As I said in another thread, fairly or not, if the offense doesn't improve the last few games, it will look shitty on Zimmer. Flip will just be his scapegoat. But if they get better, it'll be lauded as the right move and the blame will be placed on Flip.

I'd like to see Zim around for a little longer so I'm on the hoping it improves train.

Crap, now do I have to watch them again this Sunday?  I was ready to leave them, and they keep pulling me back!

Zimmer needs to get an experienced OC next year.  There's no way we can run with just Stefanski.  That's too much risk.  Maybe we hire a former OC as an OLine coach or something to help him out.

Sparano's absence looms large. I think he had Zimmer's ear and was a confidant to Flip.

I don't see the Sparano large looming thingee.  Not tyring to be a D**k but I have been holding back because it's not politically correct to talk bad about a guy who has passed.  But Sparano was part of the worst OL's in the NFL.  He was a big proponent/voice of drafting Willie Beavers who was one of the worst OL that I had seen.  I'm sure it was emotional for the team (like Griffen incident) but I really don't see the Sparano magic with this crappy OL for years.  Mike Tice, now he was a very good OL coach.

Here’s to hoping Stefanski goes to the file cabinet and dusts off Shurmur’s old playbook.

Vikings promote QBs coach Stefanski to OC

Vikings promoted QBs coach Kevin Stefanski to offensive coordinator.
Stefanski will replace John DeFilippo, who was fired on Tuesday. Giants coach Pat Shurmur tried to take Stefanski with him when he left last offseason, but the Vikings blocked the interview request. There was some thought Minnesota should have just promoted Stefanski after Shurmur left, and now he will get his shot. Considering coach Mike Zimmer's recent comments, Stefanski will likely lean on the running game a bit more than DeFilippo did this season.

I picture a 5 year old picking plays off of our playcard.

It's the mental ability behind it that matters as much as the players executing it. You have to understand why you are in a certain formation. You have to understand what the opposing defense does week to week. You have understand what they are doing during the game. You need to have solid foundation of understanding all kinds of different defenses in order to attack. Rarely do teams have players that are so good that they melt the fundamentals of this game, where you can just pick whatever play you want and watch it work.

If you don't know why you are calling something ("this play is written in Crayon!" doesn't count) you are screwed in the league.

exactly,  the great OCs dont necessarily have a better play book,  they have a better undstanding of the whens and whys of playcalling and thats why their teams win.... or at least score a few times before its to late.

How many big games have you seen the Vikings go into and the opposing team looks like they have spent all week studying and devising ways to attack the Vikings defense and yet we look we plan to just run the same plays/plan because it worked to this point.
The Eagles playoff game is a good example.  I don't know what Flip did all week before the Patriots and Seahawks games but I don't think he tried to think outside the box and may come up with ways to relieve pressure on Cousins and run plays with out allowing the defenses to just shut us off from the beginning of the game.
