Barr's stats last night:   1 Tackle.

Season stats:  30 total tackles, 1 Forced fumble, 0 sacks, 0 INT's, 2 Passes Defensed, 3 TFL's.

Packers Fackrell, Also 6'5 and 245 lbs. drafted end of Round 3 has 8 sacks this season.

Thoughts?   Is it scheme, or is it player?   For a Top 10 pick, yikes.

Another Barr no show.  I would take every penny of his 12 million and put towards OL.  Even if we can't find an interior OL for 12 million I would stack the 12 million in 1's at OG just to get in the way.

I seriously don't see what he does that's so special for our defense that a FA LB couldn't do just as well.  I don't care what your role is, or how other teams scheme for you - at some point if you're a stud or hell even a mediocre player, you should be making the occasional splash play.  After 12 weeks he hasn't made one single splash play all year - not a sack, not an INT, I can't think of any TFL's where he crashed into the backfield to stop someone for a loss, just nothing.  I was screaming for Aaron Donald in that draft, Christ what a whiff that was.

Remember in Minicamps, training camp when Barr was supposedly lining up at DE in nickle packages?  What happened to that?  I could see Barr at LDE, Hunter at RDE, Richardson and Griffen at DT ... Barr is absolutely invisible every week, and this in a contract year??

@"Geoff Nichols" said: Part of the reason Barr doesn't put up gaudy stats is because opposing teams game plan for him. His value is that he does a little bit of everything. He is a good enough pass rusher that you need to assign protection for him. He's also good enough in coverage to play man against TE's and has the speed to get from the LOS out into the flat. In the run game the Vikings use him to set the pin (control the middle of the field to prevent cutbacks) which allows everyone else to play downhill. So he naturally isn't going to get a ton of tackles. Tl;Dr watch him off the ball and you'll quickly see how talented he is.

Ultimately it will be a numbers game. From a value perspective he probably makes a top 10 defense into a top 5 defense. That's worth something. But from an asset allocation standpoint its not cost efficient to lock up $20M+ in your linebackers. The modern NFL is predicated on getting after the CB playing coverage.

TBD what will actually happen but Barr is worth a top 5 LB contract on the open market. Even if the Vikings let him walk I don't think that would indicate he isn't a talented player or isn't worth the money in the least bit. He would be a really nice fit on the Colts who'll have money this off-season.

That's the frustration with Barr. He doesn't put up the numbers that you'd expect from an athlete of his caliber, yet he has such a unique skill set that his presence can make or break the defense. It's difficult to say what the financial value of that is. I had hope that Eric Wilson could fill that role admirably as a lower cost option, but I think he's just a nice rotation piece. The Vikings will have a difficult decision to make. They've retained a lot of young talent, but at some point they won't be able to afford to hold onto guys like Barr or Waynes. On the positive side, we are starting to see projects like Weatherly and Harris turn into players. The difficult thing too is whether we can keep spending money to hold onto the defense, while the OL continually holds us back. It feels like something will have to give this year and the decisions are going to get a lot harder the next few years.

I didn't see our d taking a step back while he missed games earlier this year.  And we'll never pay him the Von Miller level dough he seems to think he deserves.  He is gone after this year.

I can't argue with the idea he isn't worth his current salary or what he will demand. But if he leaves and puts up impressive stats with the Colts (or anyone), that's going to start tearing down Zimmer - to players, at least. Yeah, I know his defenders will continue to say, "this defense isn't about building stats" - but a lot of players will think, "Why do I want to play for a team that keeps me from making big plays that increase my salary?" (especially if we aren't winning). And I really doubt Richardson is very pleased with what this team has done for his marketability.
