Carlson was the AFC special teams player of the week last week for Oakland, after nailing a game winner and two other field goals.  You just can’t make this shit up...

But it is also why I didn’t want the Vikings to completely cut ties with him after the GB game.  One bad game is a pretty short leash to simply cut ties with a talented kicker you just spent a 5th round pick on.

Rick Danmeier could probably punch through kicks up to 25 yards... just 5 yerds shorter than his playing days. :)  Seriously though, watching all kickers now I think we just have to get used to some misses.

He should have got a third shot at the 2nd one, running into kicker should have been called.

Totally should have been a penalty.

It seemed like offsides on the onside kick was the only penalty called against them all game...

He missed two long field goals, one of which he made originally, but got knocked back 5-yards on a dumb penalty and missed the retry. With Carlson he kept missing kicks the same way and was visibly spooked along with struggling during the preseason. He's doing better now in Oakland, but that's a much lower pressure situation and better for him than being thrown onto a contending team and expecting to be perfect. Drafting Carlson was a dumb move by the front office and Priefer. Bailey has at least been around long enough to weather the storm, so I'm not worried about him at this point, but I'd like for him to perform better.
