Bell gets a vacation

What a dumbass. This is money he will never be able to regain in his career. Somebody will definitely get him paid next year, but the only money guaranteed will be Year 1. Wow.

How if he was under contract for this year and he fails to meet the terms of that contract does this season qualify towards him being a free agent?  Shouldn't he have to play or actually be available to play in a certain number of games to qualify this as a year of service?

i believe the Steelers have the option to franchise him again next year. Or sign him to a long term contract. I hope they don’t cave in and just let him go.

he should still owe them a year of service under this years franchise tag IMO.    of course I also think that teams should have to honor contracts that they sign players to with the only outs being if both the team and player agree to tear it up.  if its a 5 year deal its a 5 year deal IMO.

after a year of sitting out, one would wonder if the Dez factor may surface.  Dez is much older so the Achilles was more likely, but taking a year off is going to affect his body for sure.

He could break a leg in a jet ski accident and be totally screwed. Hard to believe that he would leave 14.5 million on the table. That's gonna be hard to make back regardless of the contract he may sign.

Every year I read oped's and articles stating just how overvalued RB's are in today's NFL and why more and more teams opt in favor of multiple all-purpose backs and not the one bell-cow (no pun intended).

The Steelers really grind up backs with all those touches and do not really want to pay beyond one year.

Connor already has 230 carries & receptions thru 8 games.

Bell would have had to carry that load if he was playing.
I think most fans only look at the 14 mil plus he turned down this year and use the same line of he will never get it back.

Bell won’t get back that money but maybe being able to walk without pain later in life is worth it?
The issue is that the Steelers wanted to use him up and spit him out.
Now they are doing it to Connor.
Bell will get a decent deal from a team that probably is not going to give him over 400 touches.
You give a player that many touches and they ain't gonna last long.

There are teams with insane cap room next year...he could get QB type money from a team like the Jets...

Interesting perspective, but isn't a large number of carries just what comes with being a "feature back" - which is a prerequisite for getting a huge contract? Todd Gurley has 238 touches, Ezekiel Elliott and Kareem Hunt have over 200. Some feature backs might have 20% less than Conner, but it's not as if the Steelers are double the typical workload. If Bell wants half the number of touches - like Latavius Murray with 210 so far - he's going to be making a lot less.
No, RBs don't last long. Leveon should have been a QB if he wanted a long NFL career.
