We live in the digital age of affiliated personal advertising man... Skittles doesn't need to produce award winning advertisements to generate views and discussion about their product.
I bet it went down like every other YouTube product endorsement sans an actual expectation to follow through because... they are just Skittles: they sent him a box of product and asked him suggested it would be great if he posted a video featuring him and the gigantic box to his gigantic social media following. He probably felt a need to thank them and started with the classic vlog route, doing his touchdown dance with the box. He uploads it to his instagram as a thank you and here we are...
Skittles wins by generating thousands of impressions and creating an advertising campaign off a box of Skittles.
