Well we drove up Sunday and got here early Monday morning. We are spending a few days deer hunting ( it's been a long long time since I've been able to do this with Brian) and then we are heading out to fish for a few days. Possibly hunt a couple more days and head home.
Hopefully we'll be headed back with some venison.

I miss venison. I love it. My Mom used to can it and its unreal that way. Venison sausage. Delicious. Growing up in the U.P. of Michigan we had it all the time. Freezer was always full of venison steaks.

thats something I have never been able to eat is canned meat.  I am sure its fine and all, but it just reminds me to much of 8th grade biology with all the little dead animals in the jars with formeldahyde.

Its amazingly good. Canned pickles, beets, etc. It just preserves it. Its not like you eat the venison out of the jar, you cook it just like you would if you took it out of the freezer and let it thaw.

oh i understand the concept... my wife cans a lot of stuff (happens to be kraut day at home today)  just meat in a jar on  a shelf makes me a bit sick to think of eating it...if I dont know... it probably would even know,  but like I said... the fetal pig in a clear jar that I starred at all year in 86 just sticks with me on this matter.

I was back in Minnesota for the weekend to do a little bow hunting...  passed up two nice bucks waiting for the "big one".  This cold weather had them moving before the storm on Sunday.  Good luck and shoot straight, Pops.  Keep us all updated if you guys get some deer and/or fish.

Unfortunately I haven't learned how to do this yet. And no deer for now. We had some shots but they were either small young does or young bucks. We both passed this time. Hopefully next week we get another chance. If not we'll probably come back next month. Now it's off to due some fishing up North, i know we'll score there. Going to our annual fishing destination.

I'm curious how far north you guys have gone up into Minnesota to hunt and fish. I always imagine you're havin' fun down in the (warmer) southern half of MN and was kind of wondering what the furthest north you've been up here is.

We were hunting in southern MN. Now we are headed to northern MN to fish. 50 miles from the Canadian border. Smallies are eating get ready for the winter. It's awesome getting a bite almost every cast. Especially since we just got through with a tournament on a lake we fished 2 1/2 days to get our first bite and 5 days of prefishing for the tournament and 2 days of the tournament and i caught 1 keeper bass and Brian caught 1 in prefishing and zero during the tournament. Worse lake I've ever fished on. The pro that won it had 26 lbs. (3 day total) to win it. Our results weren't unlike 230 others.

Pretty cool Pops - take that time in and enjoy it; I hear the weather should be fair until Saturday. Not Texas warm, but warmer than it's been up here for the past couple weeks

I am from Winona and remember my parents and grandparents tlaking about the Armistace Day Blizzard and about Max Conrad.  The airport in Winona is named Max Conrad Field.
