BREAKING: Vikings cut Carlson, will sign Bailey
@"StickyBun" said:Was Bailey hurt last year or something? Stats show he missed four games, and his FG% was a career low. He must have a strong leg. Career long FG is 56 and he's done that three times.@"mgobluevikes" said: ...and why was Bailey sitting on the street again? Salary cap casualty in Dallas, turned down 4 other offers until Minnesota came calling. The guy has already made $13 million in his career, could afford to be picky. 30 years old, lots of years left in him. Keeps himself in great shape.https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BailDa00.htm

The Dallas Cowboys have cut the best kicker in franchise history. The team released Dan Bailey on Saturday.
It was a stunning move from the Cowboys, who signed the ultra-accurate Bailey to a seven-year $22.5 million contract in 2014. He had three years left on the deal. The move saves the Cowboys $3.4 million on the salary cap.
Thank you Jerrah!
now I would like the Vikes to give young Daniel a few weeks to collect himself and then offer him a PS spot, hes got the leg talent so let him work with Bailey for this year without any pressure on either one as to it being a competition. Bailey has to know the team is strapped cap wise and unless he really really wants to be here (plays on the cheap) he is likely just auditioning for another big contract from somebody else next year.
He also had a bad second half of the season with Dallas - but was due more to him suffering a groin injury game 7, came back Thanksgiving but was not the same yet. Probably needed a lot more time to recover from injury. Dallas went with some Canadian dude who's never kicked in an NFL game - but like stated above, more a salary cap move to release him.

I think that's spot on. With OT ending, we were assured of keeping GB from winning (so we were going to stay even with them in the division race) so Carlson was allowed to either keep himself alive (he would have come out of the game with an emotional boost if he kicked the game-winning FG) or to pound the final nail in his own coffin. Turns out he hit that nail better than any of his kicks.Does Carlson push Walsh a bit out of our collective Viking memory now, or will we forget the "Carlson Era" too quickly?
Not even close. This was nothing like that dagger.
How is this guy on Kick Offs? We all have heard about his career accuracy - but I have not heard about his kick-off leg power.

Wow. Swift action taken. I'm a little surprised but shouldn't be I guess. Yesterday was brutal.
I hope Bailey can be steady and reliable for us. If he is-- pay the man to keep him here!

Thank God. That monkey was going to be draped over his shoulders for the rest of the season. Wise move.
BOOM
... like the sound a ball makes when Dan Bailey is splitting the uprights.
I'm sure Bailey was watching the Viking game, popping open a new bottle of Dom with every Carlson miss. Ya feel bad for the kid, but he'll latch on somewhere after in the next year or so after a few months of professional therapy.
wonder how much $$ he got. we didnt have much to give.

bwaaahhhahah
Zimmer at presser (this is an actual quote):
Reporter: 'So why did you cut Daniel Carlson?'
Zimmer: 'Did you see the game?'
LOL. With all due respect to a young man in Carlson that I'm sure did not want to miss those kicks, Zimmer gives zero f%^&s. Make the kicks, do your job. Its a bottom line business, the NFL.
