Just got the confirmation from the MRI that my son's (HS senior) career is over.  Tore ACL, MCL and menicus damage.  Surgery upcoming.

Another son will miss majority of his senior year.  He was the stud DE for the team, so the team will miss him as well.  Sorta makes me wonder sometimes, all the time and effort he spent getting to this point all gone in an instant.  On kick return no less.  Again.  That is how my other son's HS career ended as well.  Concussion on kick return.

Plain old sucks.  He wasn't going to play college ball, he wasn't that good or big.  But he was a smart football player and fun to watch.  Now it is all memories.

Thanks.  He was pissed when it happened.  Wouldn't let them help him walk off the field and tried to get the doc to let him go back in.  But the way his knee moved when he took his first step, my wife knew it was bad.  My older son went down and talked with him and I think that helped.  He is either dealing okay with it now, or masking it well.

Sorry Greed.

Keep their spirits up best you can, it's an emotional shock to the system.
My boy took a helmet to the leg. Got him to the hospital where he THEN started crying.
Asked if he was crying because it hurt, he said no, ""my season is over". turned out OK in the end, but what an emotional toll it takes.  Stay strong, family first.
Lots of love headed your way,
Ned

That sucks, Greed.  Sorry to hear it's over.  Hope your son's surgery/rehab all goes well.  I'm sure your older son will have lots of advice for him.

Some things are just out of our control - good luck.

Thanks.  Momma went down to talk to him after the doc was done.  He told her to go back to the stands.  Said if she hugged him he would start crying.  Emotional toll is right.  Watched the rest of the 3/4 of the game with an empty feeling in my stomach.

Glad your boy is ok.  Treasure every moment and don't miss a game.  I am pretty adamant about being at each and every game from jr tackle all the way up because I know how quickly it can be the last play I will see of them.

And thanks all for the kind words.  Know we don't always agree, but we are family here.  Really appreciate the support.

Nothing I can say that will take away any of the pain.  All I can say is that it'll make his next start (in college) that much sweeter.

Haha, he isn't going to play college.  He doesn't have the drive and isn't at that level.  He is smart and has played DE his whole career, so he is good at it, but he doesn't have the quick twitch and he isn't that big.  6'2" and 185.  Pretty solid, but struggled to put on weight even with lifting all off season.

Anyway, thank you all.  He seems to be doing well with the news.  I think this is the slow burn of missed opportunities that will get him down the road.  It may seem trivial, but playing football on varsity is a big deal for a young man.

Sorry to hear this. An injury like that suck any time, but specially during Senior year.

My son had the same kind of injury his Freshman year. The doctor wasn’t optimistic and told him he probably wouldnt play sports again.

A month later he had surgery, by spring he was playing baseball. He did give up football though.

That totally sucks, greed.  Senior year is the last chance the vast majority of kids have to play the sports they love...

Hopefully he heals up and keeps his mind right.
