My Game MVP: Harry
Smith had a weird game. He made some huge splash plays with the fumble recovery, sack, and interception, but he also gave up a TD and was not great in coverage. I'd be curious to see what it looks like in All-22, but I felt like SF was keying in on Smith and Gedeon to get the huge chunks of yards to their TE and FB. Could also just simply be, the LBers biting way too hard on playaction passes, but Smith looked off for most of the game.
A low-key player of the game for me was Jayron Kearse. We were down 2 CBs, Alexander & Waynes, and Hill was struggling, so they stayed in big nickel for most of the second half. Kearse played well in coverage and the overload blitz with Kearse and Kendricks caused Hughes pick 6.

TE's killed us today. Good thing we're only playing Jimmy Graham next week lol!
Go Chicago Bears!

Well it will be the ghost of Jimmy Graham, but regardless there are some adjustments that need to be made. Teams were exploiting the D biting hard on playaction passes in the preseason and SF went after that weakness hard in their game plan. It's difficult, because the aggressiveness is part of what makes the D so good, but it was being used against us today. There were also coverage issues that exacerbated it. I'm curious how long it will take them to put Wilson on the field in place of Gedeon?

I was curious about that too. I was expecting Iloka to be used in the big nickel role, but either the coaches were happy with Kearse and felt he earned the playing time or they wanted to give Iloka more time to settle in. Kearse played really well today and I suspect we'll be seeing a lot more of the big nickel look this year and we have two safeties capable of playing that role.
I absolutely loved how fired up he was after they stopped them from getting in the end zone. He had a fantastic game.
