Jerry Jones ideas for NFL schedule
Jerry Jones goes on the record about what he'd do about the NFL schedule. https://t.co/fUYwAMOUhL

You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it. — Robin Williams
Stupidity. Like starters wouldn't play in 2 preseason games?? This weathered good ol' boy needs to keep his yapper shut.
"As for the financial component, Jones told The Dallas Morning News that adding two more games per team to the regular season would provide "more than $1 billion to the players" — which would amount to an additional income of roughly $589,000 per player on the 53-man roster, per year."
NFL owners. Always worrying about player safety and how much money players make. ;)
NO MORE GAMES.
The players can't even survive a season now before they get to the SB.
Besides, I think it is stupid to play basketball and hockey championships in June. We would end up with the SB in March if they had their way. The regular season games end up meaning nothing.

Why would we end up in March? The proposal was to replace two preseason games with two regular season games.
Probably inevitable. If the owners decide viewership reaches a downward turn to a declining state, some of them will want to milk the product before it dries up. Some players will hear that billion-dollar bump in the salary cap and ignore their long-term health.
I thought they should have reduced pre-season before. I'm not sure about adding more regular season games. I think if they do they need to expand rosters and allow more then 45 to dress. Otherwise the playoffs might be disasters. Playing some 2nd and 3rd strings because of injuries and just plain exhaustion. Not that watching a couple more real games per year would bother me. I've watched nearly every wasted minute of pre-season this year. So that tells you if the Vikes are playing I'm watching. Meaningful or not.
The owners are ruining this league. Fuck Jerry Jones.
Joe Thomas was on ESPN Radio this morning...He advocated no more games, but add another bye week to the season and add two more teams to the playoff's. This increases fan participation the last part of the season as more teams have something to play for.
I thought it was a damn good idea.
I think they should eliminate one preseason game and add a second bye week. Teams should have a bye before they have to play on a Thursday. Presently the quality of football on Thursdays, especially late in the season, is really poor. Away teams have a severe disadvantage.
Also, I don't agree with adding more teams to the playoffs. Rather than adding more games, how about improving the quality of the games. Having more rested players will be better for players' careers and long-term health.
Jones assumes there will be more revenue because he assumes the NFL can add two games per year and fan interest would remain the same. That's wrong. If the quality of the product is diminished, people will stop watching.

How would that work I wonder. Add 2 more teams per conference. These two #7 & 8 would play each other on the 1st week of the playoffs. Then the normal wild card round would have one extra team? I just don't understand how they work this. Only one team gets a bye week in the playoffs. Don't know I'd like this idea
I think they need more practice. See offensive line play around the league.

Kind of what I was thinking if the league added more games. Just add more teams to the playoffs. The only way teams get more games is by being good enough to make the playoffs.
Actually, I don't have a problem with the way it is now. I certainly don't want the season to start in August. If you don't like pre-season practice games, then don't watch them.
kmillard is right...it takes time for these guys to gel as a unit. As I mentioned in another thread, reduce actual pre-season games and have more scrimmaging with other teams. If they want to extend the season, make it in training camp where these guys see more practice.
Adding more games? Pointless. 16 games is more than enough. Expanding rosters by a couple of players and adding a second bye-week are serious steps to helping player health. You can't be concerned about preventing concussions and add 2 more games.
And for the love of Odin, put an end to these silly London/Mexico City/Timbuktu games. Except for the woody Baddell gets hyping his International NFL wet dream, the home team fans get screwed out of a game, players get exhausted and the teams' travel/practice schedules are disrupted for two weeks.
get rid of the short week games, thursday football needs to be eliminated. also in the name of fairness.... have teams coming off byes face teams coming off byes, its rediculous that a team coming off a bye gets 2 weeks to prepare for a game when their opponents have essentially 5 days. no reason that they cant have 8 bye weeks set up with 4 teams each bye week and schedule them so that they play each other the next week. IMO the post bye week match ups are another way for the league to dictate outcomes.

Here is my proposal:
Only 2 preseason games. Teams can do more joint practices, if they want, for evaluation purposes.
Add a second bye week. More rest to keep players healthy.
A 17 game schedule. All teams play 1 neutral site game. That gives the NFL 16 games to be played at these neutral sites to expand the fan market without watering down the league by adding more teams. It also doesn't interrupt home scheduling for only a few teams a year.
I'm also on board with the added playoff team. 7 per conference is fine. Why should the second best team in each conference earn a bye?
No need to change the length of the season (the 17th game and second bye week essentially use the removed 2 preseason games), fans get the opportunity to travel to neutral site without impacting the number of home games, more rest for players and no second best rewards while also keeping more fan bases involved in the late season.

while i am not a fan of bye weeks... (i hate not having the Vikings to watch on Sundays) if they are going to mess with schedule and season length... I think this is the best proposal I have seen.
silverjoel for commish!

I dunno. With 16 games, it's pretty balanced between divisions and conferences. For the 17th game, who plays whom? and 16 neutral site games? Every year? Wow.
...although I do want the Vikings to play in Iceland. :)
