Thoughts on Sloter?
Me, too. When I first saw him... I thought he was a back-up punter. The guy is rail-thin! But then I saw him sling it. Based ONLY on what I saw last night, I'd be comfortable letting Sieman go and making Sloter our #2.
I thought Sloter looked a lot better than Siemian. He had some off target passes out there, the interception being 1 of a few. He was throwing behind guys. He looked a little rattled quite honestly. Maybe going back to Denver made him that way.
Conversely, I thought Sloter looked a lot more composed. He seemed to be on a mission to show the Broncos brass that they made a mistake letting him go.
Sloter looks like he picked up right where he left off last preseason... Dominating third stringers.
From what I've seen, I think he has better arm talent than Trevor. Stronger arm and better accuracy. Siemian had too many balls that were off target or behind his receiver.
I like his upside, but I'd like to see him tear it up against some better competition. I wonder if the Vikings will put him in ahead of Siemian at all this preseason?
Bercich made a couple observations on things Sloter was identifying at the line. I think there's definitely more upside. I wish the team would put Sloter ahead of Siemian, quite frankly. I wasn't very impressed with ol' Trevor.
I'm with others, want to see what he can do vs higher level competition.
Maybe he gets in the game earlier next week?
As of August, I would be very nervous putting him ahead of Simian this year. You just can't coach experience.

I thought Sloter looked better than Siemian. I have
never really been excited about the Siemian signing and will not be
surprised if Sloter beats him out.

I thought the same thing about Case last off-season... solid veteran back up, but didn't make any notable plays in pre-season.
It's hard to say how Siemian would look with Diggs, Thielen, Rudy, and Cook. Hopefully we don't have to find out...
I thought he looked great and think he deserves some time going against the 2nd stringers. He probably has the best arm on the team, although that is only a small part of what makes a QB successful.

He'll get the chance to be the #2 in 2019. Which would be kind of amazing, really, if you look at where he's been.
He's got a lot to learn and 1st team defenses won't be as easy as the defenses he's seen the last two years, but you do have to kinda sorta wonder what he might look like throwing to Diggs, Thielen and Rudolph.
QB Kyle Sloter finally plays in a game for Vikings and looks good
The Vikings waited a long time for Kyle Sloter to play in a game, and he delivered.
In Saturday’s 42-28 win in the preseason opener at Denver, the third-string quarterback completed 9 of 11 passes for 69 yards and played a part in two decisive late-game touchdowns against his former team.
Sloter had played in all four preseason games for the Broncos last year before being waived. He joined Minnesota for the practice squad in Week 1 and was on the 53-man roster for the rest of the season but never got into a game.
“He did a nice job,’’ Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said of Saturday’s showing. “He threw the ball good, took care of the football.’

Sloter won't beat him out this year, the lineup at QB is set for 2018, With Siemian as backup and Sloter #3. But with good showing in preseason this year and if he continue to make the most of his small amount of reps in practice, he's lining himself up to be the #2 in 2019.
I think Siemian is a decent backup, I'm glad we have him. But doesn't he seem slow in his drop backs? The guy has a bunch of NFL starts and he's thrown more TDs than INTs. He'll be gone next year as he only signed a one year deal.
Siemian was straight up slow...slow movement in the pocket, slow going to his reads and slow in making any decisions. Compared to Sloter who looked 10 times better.

Yeah, I thought Siemian looked OK. I think it's possible that Sloter beats him out, but very unlikely. If the backup has to go in at some point in the regular season, against all of the disguised coverages and exotic blitz packages, we're going to want someone who's at least seen it before. That's why we traded for him. We've really been lucky the last couple years to be able to land a #2 who's started several NFL games and isn't 40 years old.
I think he's right where he should be. We Fans haven't seen much yet. I am looking forward to seeing more snaps for sure! I was impressed with his tape like everyone else, but I have no idea how fast he is processing.
He was in Rare Air Last Year with Brainy Bradford and Savvy Teddy and Wiley Case setting the example.
I think his movement is above average and his arm talent is unquestionable.
I haven't been as excited about a backup quarterback since Wade Wilson and Rich Gannon

Actually with the way the league has been running through QBs the last decade and not taking the time to develop the young arms, there are quite a few young guys with experience out there to pick from...none of them are really amazing, but there is a reason they are available.
